Reviewer comments on business characteristics

My friends, at the start of autumn, I can already predict it: the weather for this end of the year will be very busy. Strong clouds are to be expected in the sky all over the world and the fault will undoubtedly fall on the atomizer that we are going to dissect today: the OBS Engine.

For those who follow, OBS made a pretty smashing entrance into the atomization world with a Crius that did a lot better than hold up. Adored by some, vilified by others, this atomizer was all the same a precursor of the renewal of the RTA because it put between all the mouths the capacity to produce very thick clouds of vapor while maintaining a very practical tank for autonomy . Since then, competitors have taken their toll in the category, with Griffin and other vaping animals.

To get back to the peloton, OBS offers us here an Engine with a predestined name. Indeed, its development in vapor brings it much closer to Cugnot's Fardier than to the ordinary teapot. A steam engine? This is the concept dear to the manufacturer. And I have the feeling that the temptation to reproduce the commercial miracle of the Crius pushed him to a more in-depth study before laying this object to us.

Offered at a very well calculated price which integrates it perfectly into the category of small affordable cars, the Engine is a pure double-coil which presents a more than interesting set of features which should allow it to find its way to the sets. -competition ups. This is what we are going to see now.

Reviewer's comments on physical characteristics and perceived quality

First of all, the Engine is beautiful.

Alright Alright. This is subjective, blah blah, an ato is nothing but a piece of metal, blah blah…. But I find it canon, perfectly presented and original enough to be distinguished very well from the mass of atomizers in the same category. Available in steel or black, you won't find any exotic colors here. Clearly, if you want it in red, paint it and do a review on Vape Motion: “Pimp My Atty!”.

25mm in diameter, it is a beautiful baby, not very high yet. We can already guess that the assembly on the set will not be a pain, it is already that. The upper part already reveals that the airflow will be taken just below the drip-tip, the top cap is massive and surrounded by chrome and bears the name of the brand on both sides.

In the center, we find the quartz tank which seems to be armed from the inside by steel columns. I doubt that this could present any brake to a breakage in the event of a fall but the feeling of perceived solidity (as we say in the automotive world) is reinforced. Either way, you have a second tank to replace if you start sweetening strawberries and drop your ato. Inside, we can already guess a large diameter bell with “Engine”Engraved on it.

At the bottom, we find the traditional bottom-cap, absolutely devoid of any particularity except a few grooves to facilitate the grip.

obs-engine-rta-bursts

The aesthetics are therefore balanced and rather massive and, in its black livery, the Nouvel Obs does not crush the visual field because it balances the painted parts and the chrome or steel parts in a very nice way.

The quality of finish is above all suspicion for the price charged. The threads are easy to understand, the various screwings take place naturally. The moving parts of the ato that are the airflow ring or the filler cap are at the top, very operational and well thought out. There is undoubtedly better in terms of the quantity of material but, taking into account the diameter of the Engine, the choice of a certain fineness of the materials, counter-balanced by a precise adjustment, seems adapted not to have an ato of 500gr at the end of the box!

The announced capacity is 5.2ml. I lean more for 5ml maxi, or even less, but I have to keep a little suspense for a while ...

Reviewer's comments on functional features

In terms of functionality, the Engine is full.

We will start with what could have been the worst: the air intake from the top of the atomizer. Ok, I'm like you, I was quite reluctant. I understand of course the idea which is to avoid any leak but, in the past, some atomizers thus equipped have been able to demonstrate that it is the general airflow which could suffer and have difficulty cooling the coils and therefore generate a vapor other than hot. However, OBS has worked on the subject with the utmost seriousness and we must admit that the result is stunning.

obs-engine-rta-airflow

To summarize: the chimney leading from the evaporation chamber to the drip-tip consists of two walls defining two spaces or ducts. The first, activated by your own mouth when you inhale, conveys the air to the chamber, which cools the coils and goes up through the second leads to the drip-tip. As a good drawing is better than a long explanation, you will find in the image below the principle of operation.

obs-engine-rta-airflow-schema

The advantage is, that unless you vape upside down, you cannot have any leaks or condensation. Until now, the disadvantage of this system was that the ventilation thus generated was often insufficient and that at high powers, necessary to shake a double-coil, the vapor was hot, even too hot for comfortable use.

Here, none of that, everything seems to have been sized in a perfect way to vape serenely and the Engine sets the scene for a small revolution because, from now on, having the airholes on the top of the atomizer is no longer disqualifying to have sufficient airflow. And even frankly aerial.

Second feature very well seen, the top-cap is sliding, from top to bottom and, in the raised position, reveals a large filling hole. It was simple but still had to think about it. I just add that the operation is a pure happiness of comfort. No excessive pressure to apply, it's butter. Of course, as the airflow is taken from the top, there is no need to condemn it for worry-free filling.

obs-engine-rta-filling

There is also no need to turn a hypothetical liquid flow adjustment ring because there is none. And I am very happy with it, starting from the principle which is not so stupid if you think about it, that an atomizer is either capable of conveying any type of liquid or it is not. And it is not the fact of enlarging the holes that will make it more inclined to swallow VG if it is not able to do so or to go to 80/20 if necessary. This is typically, in my opinion, a silly feature because as you know you are either vaping high VG and you need a certain type of ato or you are vaping low VG and you need one. other. Full stop, the rest is just commercial seduction.

The third feature that makes the Engine stand out is its power principle. The Velocity plate is on the bottom-cap, raised by a few millimeters and the chimney is fixed on the top-cap. It is only when the junction of the two takes place that the chamber becomes airtight. There are therefore two pins on the chimney that must be engaged in the two notches provided for this purpose on the plate and then the screwing can take place. And, if it sounds complex explained like that, in reality it is very easy and almost automatic.

obs-engine-rta-deck-schema

The capillary therefore plunges into the bottom-cap tank which is located below and feeds the coils without problem. Since the airtight chamber is always suspended and filled with air, liquid does not seep into it under pressure, unless prompted to do so when creating a vacuum with your mouth call. The tank dripper system is exactly right, except that the liquid contained in the tank continues to feed this tank by simple phenomenon of gravity. The liquid therefore rises by the four ends of cotton which plunges in the juice to the plate to be vaporized by the coils. Here again, we have a simple, physical principle that works perfectly.

Drip-Tip Features

  • Drip tip type: 510 Only
  • Presence of a Drip-Tip? Yes, the vaper can immediately use the product
  • Length and type of drip-tip present: Short
  • Quality of the drip-tip present: Very good

Reviewer's comments on the Drip-Tip

The supplied drip-tip has been designed to work with the Engine, you can immediately feel it when you take it in the mouth.

Made of POM (polyoxymethylene), a material which is resistant to mechanical shocks and corrosion by chemicals and able to withstand wide temperature ranges, it is very pleasant and suitable for the “cloud” type operation of the device. One could have doubted its effectiveness realizing that it uses a simple 510 fixing and that its internal diameter, which corresponds to that of the central duct of the chimney, is not very large but yet it works really well, To be honest, even in the trying conditions of strong powers.

I see only two slight faults. It is difficult to get out of its housing due to its shape and it is still subject to heat after a period of chain-vaping. Comfort yourself by thinking that the 510 binding will accommodate any type of drip-tip.

Reviewer's comments on conditioning

A white and yellow chick box accommodates the atomizer, a spare pyrex, a notice in English whose numerous images will allow even the most Anglophobic of those nostalgic for the Hundred Years' War to understand how the Engine works.

There is also a bag of spare parts containing: two twisted coils, a cotton pad, enough joints to liven up a party in Jamaica, and four replacement screws for the Velocity tray.

The icing on the cake, you will also have a BTR screwdriver, very suitable, which will help you with your assemblies. I find it particularly successful in the sense that it prohibits too much forcing of the screwing and therefore preserves the quality of the impression while ensuring proper tightening of the legs. In addition, its shape allows tightening without entangling your fingers with your coil tutor.

Vapelier's note on ease of use: 4.4 / 5 4.4 5 out of stars

Reviewer's comments on the use of the product

Easy to fill, easy to coil, easy to fit with cotton that just needs to fit into the plunge holes to the bottom of the tank, the Engine is a quasi plug & vape atomizer. The kind that we can even recommend to a beginner in power-vaping (I did not say a beginner at all!).

obs-engine-rta-plateau-naked

It would however be an insult to him to confine it to a single kind of public because this atomizer has everything to please the most ardent of the cloud! It's very simple, I put my Limitless RDTA + away since I tested it and I have been swimming in vaporous happiness for five days !!! Not a single dry-hit, not a leak, not a dirt, no inconvenience in terms of condensation, it's simple, it's a joy!

The juice supply is perfect and you won't have to trim your cotton whiskers or whatnot so that it doesn't block the holes too much. A ladle and it's perfect.

The aiflow is generously sized and the double wall system of the chimney has two big advantages: the flavors are very sharp, precise and consistent and the cooling of the ato is a nice joke. Even by sending it all the watts you want, it heats very little and this for two reasons: first the atomization chamber is totally immersed in the liquid and then, the central duct of the chimney also benefits from the cooling of the liquid. air conveyed by the second duct which surrounds it. They are smart at OBS ...

And now, what about the ultimate test? Now that we know that the flavors are boosted by the turbo effect generated by the double duct and that using the Engine is disconcertingly easy, it only remains to see if the clouds are there. , no ?

Well, yeah ! This atomizer has no complex to have in its category. On a 0.3Ω assembly, in clapton on a 3mm axis, you can send it at ease 70W without it flinching or giving the slightest sign of under-power and without it heating up !!! At 80W, it works fine even if the steam starts to heat up anyway. At 90W, we have the first signs of a lack of juice on the capillary. This leaves it with a wide range of operations and as much to tell you that the sky covers itself very quickly. A steam engine, a real one! And steam with flavor, please.

Faults ? Yes, I see two.

The first is that, if OBS has succeeded perfectly with the thermal insulation, the sound insulation is missing ... 😉 Indeed, the Engine makes the noise of a coffee maker and if people do not realize the clouds that you are going to produce ( an ophthalmologist can fix that…), they'll hear you coming!

The second fault is his tendency to drink ... Future follower of AA (Atos Anonymous), the Engine wants to send you to the clouds but you have to provide him with his dose of juice. And not just a little. But, as you know, it is the law of the genre ... a simple phenomenon of carburation: Air + Liquid = Steam.

Other than that? Well, nothing at all, except that the Engine is a terrific atomizer.

The mood ticket of the reviewer

What a slap ...

The OBS Engine is one of its atomizers which, seemingly, brings a wave of renewal in a category where the law of the genre consists in copying what others do. Here, the manufacturer has bet on the multiplication of physical and functional principles that provide a leading user experience.

The steam is there but not to the detriment of the taste and some drippers even have to worry about. The flavors are precise despite the on-board airflow and benefit from an imaginative design that consisted of optimizing an already existing system to extract all the essence. The ease of use and assembly is disarming, enough to look down on the rest of your equipment.

In short, a very well deserved top ato for this atomizer designed for cloud makers and certainly one of the greatest sensations of this end of the year. With a little bonus that seems trivial but sometimes essential: if you want to rectify your assembly and your tank is full, you just have to close the airflow, return the ato and remove the bottom-cap. And you can work in peace.

For 30 €, do you have to wrap it?
