Cable-powered atomizers are popular with seasoned users who praise their ability to saturate flavors and the ease with which the liquid reaches the resistors. Top-coils by nature, they generate a warm lukewarm vapor, particularly suitable for tasting tobacco or gourmet liquids.
In the last two years, they have multiplied and have become the fruit of passion for lovers of taste and reliability. Falsely reputed to be complex because inspired by Genesis technology, which has now disappeared on the market, they are nothing less than extremely easy to access, including for beginners in reconstructable.
It was therefore high time to pay tribute to the most emblematic of them, the one by whom it all happened: The Corona. Here in its latest version V8 Super Charge 810, an atomizer made to go from RDL to the most liberated DL. An authentic steam engine, made to last and send heavy, to use the time-honored expression but always silky with a quality of taste reproduction ranging from perfect to more than perfect.
We owe this massive vaporizer to Steampipes, a German genius manufacturer who, throughout its history, has signed some of the most amazing and disruptive atomizers in vaping. Unyon, Change, Corona and more recently the fantastic Cabéo. Exceptional quality atomizers, always a step ahead of their time.
The Corona latest version is therefore a double coil atomizer, can also be used as a single coil and rather made to undergo strong aeration and accept all types of resistances, including the thickest or exotic and liquids, including the most unreasonable in vegetable glycerin . Versatile, it can nevertheless also accommodate more felted assemblies and a restriction of the airflow to capture every taste atom of your favorite juices.
Taking a European high-end that the entire vape planet envies us, it sells for 140 €. From a strict aesthetic point of view, the Corona is a bunker. Rather long and with a contained diameter (23 mm) compared to the times, it presents a very Bauhaus-inspired design with a clean and solid appearance, entirely geared towards its use.
At the top of the building, grafted to the top cap, there is an 810 drip-tip, ideally suited to the aerial vocation of the object. Just below, the airflow ring slides easily to close more or less two triangular lights typical of the brand whose lateral location will benefit the resistance (s) depending on whether you decide to mount a single or double coil. In the case of a single resistance, you can easily adjust a single light and condemn the second. In the case of a double assembly, the two airholes will then be available, well in front of the turns.
Lower down, the top-cap set unclips itself, revealing a traditional Velocity plate that combines great ease of assembly and resistance adjustment with a small dome perfectly suited to a beautiful concentration of flavors. The insulation of the top with the base is provided by a peek piece at the bottom of it which will avoid any electrical problem.
It is also at this level that we find the filling orifice, ideally located on the perimeter of the plate and accommodating all the existing dimensions of droppers. The Super Charge kit, integrated natively, increases the usable capacity.
The floor below is dedicated to the tank part of the atomizer with two 304 steel parts surrounding a high performance polysulfone tank allowing you to keep an eye on the liquid level. 8.7 ml of capacity, a record compared to the size of the Corona, but adapted to the vaporization capacity of the ato and the voracity of the vapers! 😉
On the bottom cap, we find the classic 510 connection including the imprint to remove the isolated positive screw that holds the whole building firmly.
The quality is remarkable, as usual with the manufacturer. The thickness of the steel leaves you dreaming and bodes well for a strong resilience over time. The screws are perfect, flexible and cut in a very resistant steel and the seals play their role assiduously. The level of achievement is worthy of the brand and inspires great confidence. It also makes it possible to enhance its price by revealing a perceived quality that is infinitely superior to all the other candidates in the same technological category.

In addition to the basic functionality of any atomizer, namely generating steam, there are particularities in the Corona that make it a leading technological object.
First, there are the power cables. The principle is simple. Four cables are immersed in the tank and their ends appear at the bottom of the plate. They therefore have only one purpose: to bring the liquid contained in the tank to the tray. For this, they are composed of seven steel strands. A central strand making up what is called the core of the cable and six at the periphery. Here, we are entitled to cables of exceptional steel quality, in 7 x 19 strands, as shown in the diagram below.
The particularity of this technology is to convey the liquid in an optimal way. So, you can't have a dry-hit with this system, no matter how much power you put on it. Arrived on the bottom of the tray, the liquid will be captured by your cotton wicks, placed on the ends of the cables and brought to the resistances. In addition to the exceptional capillarity, we can praise the resistance of this system over time and the legendary reliability of the cables which can ensure many months of use without the slightest maintenance.
A little tip for those who only vaporize liquids heavily loaded with VG. It is enough to remove the core of the cables to multiply the capillarity by two because, at this moment there, the liquid uses the outside AND the inside of the cable to climb.
To do this, it is two minutes of work. The peripheral strands are pressed so as to slide them down two or three millimeters. Once the six strands have been lowered, the core becomes visible and gripping, all you need is a pair of pliers to grab it and remove it while gently holding the whole to keep its shape. Simple and devilishly effective.
The second essential feature of the Corona lies in its ability to adjust the airflow with great finesse. The triangular shape of the lights is the direct cause. The internal shutters, controllable by turning the drip-tip, allow you to close the lights more or less according to your taste. The result is immediate and makes it possible to easily and precisely influence the air capacity of the board. We can thus go from the most unbridled DL to the RDL, or even to the MTL, even if there is a Corona dedicated to this specific practice which will therefore be more suitable.
Last particularity, the possibility of switching between a double-coil and a single-coil. To do this, there is the possibility that we mentioned above completely shutting off one of the lights. In this case, it suffices to mount only one resistance out of the two possible ones and to divide each cotton wick into four ends. The first two will naturally be in contact with the two cables closest to the coil and it will suffice to pass the other two between the pillars of the Velocity to make them land on the two most distant cables. It is done simply and quickly.

The Corona drip-tip, as we have seen, is directly linked to the functioning of the system. It is here in 810 format and has a flared shape that is very pleasant on the palate.
Likewise, its texture is smooth and allows the drip-tip what all drip-tips should know how to do: let themselves be forgotten in order to devote themselves to the taste!
Interesting particularity, its construction in POM does not conduct the temperature and thus avoids any burning of the lips. And it has merit because the atomizer being a top-coil, it heats up strongly at the level of the top-cap at high power, which is perfectly normal! 🥵

No bad joke here, the packaging is up to the event.
We are entitled to a solid black PVC packaging, military flight-case style, closing with four folding flaps. The interior is covered with a foam useful for the transport of the object in safety.
The endowment includes a bag of spares containing a complete kit of O-rings, a screwdriver as well as two additional screws to replace the Velocity screws if necessary. And, of course, the four cables ...
We are entitled to a Steampipes card including a square code and the manufacturer's contacts as well as a multilingual user manual that speaks French like my dog speaks German 🐶 but which nevertheless remains largely understandable.

The Corona is an atomizer that reveals its full potential during use.
Completely free of leaks or gurgling and ignoring even the concept, the cable supply system here establishes its ability to drive any type of liquid in perfect safety and linearity.
I made different assemblies, in single and double coil, in resistances ranging from 1 Ω for the highest to 0.1 Ω for the lowest, NEVER reaching the limits of the system. The feed is done perfectly regardless of the power. I went up to 90 W (all open airflow, you can imagine) without feeling any weakness. The only limit is the temperature in the mouth of the vapor, but these are human and not technical limits! 😂
The liquid consumption is directly correlated to the assembly you will make, of course. But even with very low resistance and high power, the autonomy due to the capacity of the tank remains very comfortable. In addition, the ease of filling takes on its full meaning and I would point out that there is no reflux effect in the orifice allowing it, whatever the viscosity of your e-liquid.
But the major asset and undoubtedly the one that is the most differentiating is undoubtedly the quality of the flavors of Corona. Retaining the taste capacity of the cable atomizers he inspired, he adds a finesse to them in the transcription of tastes that none of them can yet achieve. Brunhilde, Mato, Artemis are excellent contenders but they are supplanted by the one who invented the genre. Nothing surprising in principle, but the reality is there. Corona is a flavor enhancer, preciously maintaining a notable advance in the fidelity and precision of the restitution.
Imperial in the tobacco and gourmet categories, it will also appreciate fruity gourmets such as lemon tarts or other pastries. It will be less comfortable in the strictly fruit or fresh categories because it generates a warm / hot steam temperature. Nothing unusual about that, quite the contrary. Isn't the quality of a set-up intimately linked not only to the material you vape but also to your preferred taste category?

Monstrously convincing. Solid. Effective. Tasty. Easy to assemble. Easy to maintain. Easy to fill. Machined to perfection. Without competition at this level. There is no lack of dithyrambic qualifiers. And they are all topical to define a major object in the qualitative development of the vape.
Only one question remains: is the Corona worth its price? The answer is yes, without hesitation. And its resistance over time, due to its formal perfection, is not the only reason. We could also cite its taste precision, its ability to send steam like no other, its easy use or its versatility in adjusting the airflow. Even its presence, its resale value and the simple pleasure of having a unique and pioneering material in its design.
So the count is there. The Top Ato too. Steampipes is a big manufacturer, if not the biggest.
