There are names that resonate in the collective unconscious. In a vape so young, it is rarer and yet Squape is one of those surnames that we do not forget. An essential vector of a European vape, champion of a certain luxury in the cloud niche, the Swiss manufacturer StattQualm has been offering us for eight years well-born atomizers, innovative and in phase with the different eras crossed by a passionate vape and entirely devoted to the discovery of flavors and sensations.

Today, it is the turn of the A [rise] to arrive in store and thus sign the new generation from Squape, a wiser generation, more calm, simpler ... in short, an atomizer well in the news of a vape that sees its paths diverge, finally in a good balance, between DL and MTL The brand has understood this and delivers us here an atomizer that does both and which will therefore satisfy a majority of vapers.

Of course, the price will probably make people cringe but, after all, I drive a Twingo but when I dream, it's more of a Porsche or a Bentley. The part of the dream, that's the secret of a brand that only addresses enthusiasts, madmen, crazy people, lovers of flavors, lovers of beautiful objects, absolute fans of mechanical perfection. In short, all of us ...

We will therefore have for this price a reconstructable mono-coil atomizer of great formal perfection, which can take us from the most restricted of the draws to the tops of the cloudy and liberated vape. And everything that goes with it to make it work.

It is with white gloves that I approach the object as if it were a Ferrari engine to reveal its mysteries to you.

What strikes first in the aesthetics of the [rise] is its formal simplicity. Indeed, we are facing a cylindrical object where nothing sticks out, if we except the drip-tip, devoid of the slightest angle or sharp edge from the narcissistic mind of a designer. And it is this simplicity that makes the atomizer elegant. Like the bottles of Eau Sauvage or the pencil line of a Jaguar E, the object imposes by its sobriety, a rare ingredient in vaping today. This is the style of drawing that we already know, at first glance, that it will stand the test of time without taking a wrinkle.

The size of the atomizer is deliberately reduced in height, no doubt to be able to be installed without incident on any type of set-up. Its 24mm diameter predestines it to take pride of place on 98% of the available mods. Its weight is correct, in the ideal balance between a certain form of lightness and a reassuring impression of having quality in hand.

Precisely, the quality, let's talk about it! The body of the atomizer uses an all-steel construction 1.4404, an austenitic steel (comprising at least 17% chromium and 7% nickel) guaranteeing flawless stainless steel and greater hardness. This steel is also called 316L or surgical steel, which gives an idea of ​​the quality of the material.

The reservoir window is made of polysulfone (PSU), an exceptional plastic material that provides resistance to a very wide temperature range, high resistance to pressure and chemicals and is even sterilizable.

The positive connection of the A [rise] is made of Ecobrass brass, a specific brass since it does not contain lead and is particularly resistant to corrosion. Either way, StattQualm has prepared for any eventuality with a gold plating. Before the connections are corroded, it will grow teeth on the skull of my brother-in-law!

Of course, Squape wouldn't be Squape if the board wasn't particularly worked! Here we find a very practical tray in ematalised aluminum. Matal has nothing to do with the cheese of our Swiss neighbors, it is a coating between 8 and 20µm obtained by electrolysis on the surface of the aluminum, ensuring great protection against abrasion, wear, scratches but also strong resistance to all chemicals.

Note also that the part ensuring a perfect seal of the tank and being placed inside the body over the tray (do not worry, I am giving you a diagram, lol) has undergone the same treatment to ensure that the temperature of your coil will not be a problem for the life of your atomizer.

The physiognomy of the ato is fairly classic but calls for proven solutions, whether by the competition or by the brand itself. The filling is done from the top by turning the dedicated ring.

The bottom ring allows three positions: the first marked with an O indicates that you can fill your atomizer because the air and liquid inlets are locked. The position marked with a | allows, in addition to the possibilities of the first, to remove the tank in order to access the tray without having to drain your liquid. A possibility to change a resistance or a cotton on the fly without having to struggle with the vicissitudes of a total disassembly ... The last position, marked ◁ allows to modulate the opening of the air inlets present on the body of the atomizer.

Well, since we are at Squape, is it still necessary to talk about the adjustments and the quality of the screws or gaskets? So, to avoid straining your eyes and having cramps in my hands, I'll sum it up in one word: perfect.

I hope I haven't lost anyone along the way, but when you're dealing with a high-end atomizer, you still have to demonstrate why the prices can sometimes be higher. Here, the answer is in the object, the materials, the special attention paid to manufacturing and the technological choices that no one else makes.

Reviewer's comments on functional features

Usually, the functionality of a good ato is limited to “it's something that makes steam”. Here, no question of fooling, as our Canadian friends say, there is material.

I have already told you about the versatility of the atomizer, between MTL type “I suck a pencil” and DL open. It's time to develop!

If you mistake your Squape for DL, there isn't much you can do. Install your resistance between 0.3 and 0.5Ω on the board (childish, I made my hamster do it, it took him 1 minute), fill, open the airholes wide and there you are!

But if you take your Squape for MTL or restricted DL, you will have the possibility to choose between four supplied airflow reducers which are placed in the center of the plate, blocking the air intake with more or less force. Here is the list of possibilities:

• 1 x 1 mm
• 2 x 0.8 mm
• 3 x 0.8 mm
• 4 x 0.8 mm

Suffice to say that it is impossible not to find your personal airflow! However, if you are of a rare requirement, know that there are two more optional:

• 1 x 0.8 mm
• 5 x 0.8 mm

Then, you will have to install the chimney reducer supplied (we go from an opening at 4mm to 3mm) which is placed… in the chimney! And that's not all since the closing / opening functionality of the airholes will of course allow you to modulate at your convenience. Open DL, restricted DL, MTL a little, a lot or passionately, everything is possible here to improve your user experience.

In the category of functionalities, do not forget the possibility of adjusting the connection screw in order to perfect the holding and the electrical contact of your A [rise] on your mod of choice although these days, it is often the mods themselves who take care of the work with the spring-loaded connectors.

A last word on the liquid viewing window, clear, which gives a perfect view of what you have left to vape.

Reviewer's comments on the Drip-Tip

The drip-tip is a 510 quite suited to the versatility of the atomizer. Concave in shape, it plugges and unfolds easily but holds perfectly in place thanks to two well-crafted seals.

Its base is made of 316L steel and the top is made of hard and fairly wide POM, leaving a glimpse of a 4mm opening which perfectly matches the diameter of the chimney. Nothing is left to chance !

Pleasant in the mouth and in line with the atomizer, I do not see anything more to add. Even my hamster agrees, he vaped me an Old Nuts tank, the tease!

Reviewer's comments on conditioning

The conditioning is pragmatic and comprehensive. We find inside the box:

• The atomizer
• The part in ematalised aluminum ensuring the seal between the tank and the plate. Don't forget to put it first. To do this, simply position it on the tray and then fit everything into the body of the atomizer. Afterwards, it places itself and remains permanently.

• The MTL kit containing the four plate reducers and the chimney reducer.
• A Squape badged rubber grip band that you will need the first two or three days to move the bottom ring, while the atomizer is done with the handling.
• A 5mm Allen key to remove the interior of the tank, in the unlikely event that you want to replace a damaged PSU window. But we will see below that it can also be useful in other cases!
• A kit of spare parts: gaskets, screws ...
• The user manual.

The packaging box is consistent but probably not necessarily adapted to the price of the object. I know that we always ask for more, but a more luxurious setting would undoubtedly have better enhanced the content. This is of course only a very personal opinion which does not take into account the recyclable aspect, global warming, the economic crisis or other major events but Stéphane has already eaten half the box! (Yes, I called my hamster Stéphane, so what?)

Also note that there is a special optional kit allowing the most addicted to transform the A [rise] into an atomizer with a capacity of 8ml! Conversely, you can also transform it into a nano A [rise] with a capacity of 2ml. And this is where the famous 5mm allen key takes all its interest since you will need it to change the different elements in order to “tune” your atomizer.

The operating instructions are in English and German. Of course, I am familiar with the language of Lemmy and that of Goethe (🙄) but I would have appreciated a Hugo version, for the beauty of the gesture and especially for the clarity of use for the French public. I still scanned the QR Code to see if it led to a more Gallic version but I came across the same! Swiss friends, have mercy on us next time….

Appreciations in use

Reviewer's comments on the use of the product

When I reread myself, I realize the length and the technicality of the information that I have shared with you, but it is nevertheless in terms of use that everything makes sense.

Indeed, we have in A [rise] an atomizer which does better than wisely take its place in the continuum of the generations which preceded it. Simple to use once you have started up, it is formidable in all modes.

In DL, I built several types of resistance. One in eight turns spaced in NI80 around an axis of 3mm for a result of 0.5Ω. A clapton fused, still in Ni80 of 0.3Ω. A microcoil in Kanthal A1 for 0.4. All the assemblies were up to their task and, without flinching, the atomizer accepts everything and delivers precise flavors and saturated in taste and a very dense and perfectly textured vapor. Of course, the choices of resistance influence the rendering of vapor but the flavors remain clear and crisp in all cases.

In MTL, I mounted a clapton microcoil around 0.7Ω, a spaced Kanthal A1 coil wiser by 1Ω. Here again, it is the taste jackpot, whatever the air reducer installed. As you would expect, the flavors are even more focused on precision and the vapor necessarily decreases but the ratio is still very balanced.

In all cases, the power is easy to adjust because the slightest watt has a direct influence on the heat released by the coil. The atomizer is very responsive, perfectly rigged to convey electricity and is up to all liquids, without categorical exceptions.

One last remark. In one week of use, the A [rise] had no leaks, no dry-hits, no weeping. You just have to dose the cotton by following the manufacturer's recommendations (cut the ends at the edge of the tray and insert them into the plunge holes without tamping too much) and everything goes perfectly !!!!

The mood ticket of the reviewer

Squape still manages to surprise us with an atomizer which, beyond being very technological and of high quality, amazes by its simplicity in use. But this is undoubtedly the ultimate luxury, simplicity. Not something that needs to be mastered or tamed, but an object that is just perfectly suited to its function, which is to delight us with just flavors, a textured vapor and which does not take our head when we need to change the resistance.

We are in 2020! The whole Vape is occupied by the Chinese. Any? No ! Because a manufacturer of irreducible Helvetians still resists the invader…. And yes, my little guy and that doesn't deserve a Top Ato, maybe ??? Stéphaaane, attack!
