The MTL is back in force !!!

Don't panic, this isn't a new venereal disease or the barbaric acronym for a new tax. MTL, for Mouth To Lung in English (Mouth to Lung), therefore means indirect vape. This vaping technique involves absorbing vapor in the mouth, then swallowing part of it and finally, exhaling the rest. A practice that does not displace smokers since it is modeled on the same functioning as cigarettes.

It is opposed to another practice known as DTL for Direct To Lung (Direct to the Lung) where all of the vapor is directly absorbed in the lungs without passing through the mouth box. A vape technique widely used by confirmed vapers.

In the first case, we therefore need a tight air flow in order to properly channel the use of steam. In the second, the draw must be much more aerial since at that time, the vape is more like breathing.

MTL is therefore back in fashion, thanks to the concomitant release of several atomizers including the Berserker from Vandy Vape, the Prime from Svoemesto, the Arès from Innokin and other Siren… The Rose Mtl from Fumytech naturally fits into this movement by opting for typical solutions of the indirect vape: tight airflow, single coil, fairly high resistance and narrow chimney.

Proposed around 40 €, the Rose is the response of the shepherd to the shepherdess and is therefore competitive with the atomizers previously mentioned (except the Kayfun Prime) to play the role of the dog in the game of keel.

But what do these commercial considerations matter, the important thing is that the return of MTL finally signs, after a very long period of scarcity in the matter, the arrival of new reconstructable atomizers for our friends who are new to vaping or for the diehards of the indirect vape typical of flavors.

So, let's get down to business and sift through this newcomer!

Reviewer's comments on physical characteristics and perceived quality

Physically, the Rose is very successful and has enough peculiarities to extricate itself from the aesthetic banality of the competition. Indeed, if the general shape of this atomizer resembles that of many other atomizers, the manufacturer has given it a very appropriate top-cap, which imitates the internal shape in its sculpture. of a rose and its interlacing of petals. It is very flattering and, in addition to perfectly matching the surname of the bestiau, the shape really helps in the grip for unscrewing. An excellent point.

Moreover, we find, in the center of this top-cap, a red engraving symbolizing the queen of flowers. The atomizer is only available in black, the aesthetic effect is nice and rewarding.

Then, there is a fairly standard Pyrex tank underneath whose diameter of 24mm suggests a capacity of 3.5ml, undoubtedly low enough for a “normal” atomizer but sufficiently sized for an MTL product, reputed to be less greedy in liquid. The gaskets that ensure the watertightness of the tank are red and therefore allow a visual ensemble of the most consistent with the Rose. For those allergic to two-tone, the manufacturer has thought of including black spare gaskets in its packaging, no worries.

The base is surrounded by a classic airflow ring, the two slots of which can close eight holes positioned in opposition. It's quite amusing to see that the manufacturer has opted for a row of five airholes on one side and three on the other instead of ensuring classic symmetry and yet the reflection is interesting since it allows, with the same number of holes, greater range of adjustments. The bottom cap accommodates the traditional 510 connection, the central pin of which is gold-plated to prevent oxidation and therefore an alteration of conductivity in the long term. Standard engravings are all around in a pretty golden color.

Inside the tank, we see a small evaporation chamber, the high end of which shows steep enough sides to join the narrow chimney which will convey the steam to the nozzle. Inside, there is a rather small but easy to understand work surface. This one is in raw steel and has four fixing studs, two positive and two negative. So many plots for a single coil, is it reasonable? The manufacturer tells us that he made this choice in order to facilitate the installation of the resistance, whatever the orientation of the legs (left, right, etc.). There are also two plunge holes that will accommodate the ends of your cotton wicks. The space being limited, it will be necessary to install a coil in 2mm internal diameter, no more, but this should be sufficient for the typology of the ato.

The main material of the body is steel and the black finish is obtained by PVD, namely a deposit of material (“paint”) in the vapor phase. It should be noted that the brand has played on textures, offering us a matte finish for the top-cap and a satin finish for the rest. The result is quite conclusive to the eye and seems made to last over time.

Form and finish sought, use of proven techniques, the results are all in all very positive for this chapter and the Rose becomes an interesting atomizer in more than one way.

Reviewer's comments on functional features

The functionality of the Rose comes down to its airflow and the topography of its tray. We will not find here liquid flow adjustment or other improvements whose usefulness, already questioned on open atomizers, would be even more questionable in the case of an MTL atomizer.

The airflow goes from tight to extremely tight and has five positions to navigate this scale. Each of the positions differing quite significantly from the previous one, the airflow system is therefore correctly thought out. On the other hand, do not hope to reach a direct vaping position with the Rose, it is not made for that and therefore does not offer it, quite simply. I would add that the fully closed position still allows a (small) little air to pass through, which is a shame theoretically because this is not supposed to happen but is usable in practice since you will have a notch more towards a hyper draft. -tight.

The topography of the plate allows the mounting of a simple resistor in 2mm internal diameter on a single wire in 0.3 up to 0.5mm in diameter. Don't expect to put Clapton or other complicated yarns here. On the one hand, the size of the plate will not allow it but, moreover, the heat generated will be counterproductive with the tight draft provided by the airflow. On the other hand, you can choose to opt for a microcoil or a coil with spaced turns, space permitting. Be careful, however, not to create a coil that is too long so that the slope followed by the cotton can be rather gentle and not too steep. It is not because the Rose is an MTL atomizer that we must condemn capillarity by creating too right angles.

Of course, I am still circumspect about Fumytech's choice of a four-post board where two would have been enough. I understand the interest of the dubbing allowing a positioning of the resistance in all the cases but I put reservations on the capacity of such a small plate to accept two posts “of rab” without disturbing the flow and the concentration of the flavors.

Likewise, the roof of the evaporation chamber feels unnecessarily straight to me where, perhaps, a more cylindrical dome shape is widely preferred to direct the flavors out. To see in the final result ...

Drip-Tip Features

  • Drip tip type: 510 Only
  • Presence of a Drip-Tip? Yes, the vaper can immediately use the product
  • Length and type of drip-tip present: Medium
  • Quality of the present drip-tip: Good

Reviewer's comments on the Drip-Tip

It is not one but two drip-tips that are offered to us by Fumytech inside the packaging. Both are of the same material, POM (polyoxymethylene or delrin), both use 510 standard, both are medium long but they have two different shapes.

The first, installed by authority on the bike, is in the form of a column, very simple and straight, pleasant in the mouth. The second is flared at its center. The choice will therefore be made according to your personal taste and, if that was not enough, you have complete freedom to put the 510 drip-tip at your convenience by drawing from the countless proposals that exist on the market for this standard.

In all cases, the flow of vapor being limited by the narrowness of the chimney, you will be right in the face of the direct vaping objective of the product.

Vapelier's note on packaging: 2 / 5 2 5 out of stars

Reviewer's comments on conditioning

The packaging is in the purest Fumytech tradition, complete and quite rewarding.

A hard black cardboard box protects the interior while displaying a glossy photo of the ato on top. Inside, we therefore find our Rose but also a spare pyrex, the second drip-tip and a bag of spares comprising a set of gaskets (black), screws, coils (approximately 1.2Ω) and a pad of cotton. What to start without asking philosophical problems of the type who am I, where will I, how one makes a coil?

A notice is missing, admittedly of little use when addressing a confirmed audience but which could have had its place here to help in the explanation to beginners in reconstructable to which the Rose is also addressed. The exploded view on the back of the cover is in no way sufficient to explain the optimal functioning of the atomizer. Pity…

Reviewer's comments on the use of the product

Let's start first, if you don't mind, with the positive points which are numerous:

The quality of the machining and the particular shape of the top-cap are particularly useful aids for easy filling, whatever the form of dropper you use. The holes thus revealed are indeed gaping and just waiting for a little juice to fill with great ease. Moreover, no need to block the airflow to do this, everything has been thought out to avoid leaks.

And that's pretty good because there aren't any leaks! No more than dry-hits. To do this, all you have to do is follow these common sense rules:

The ends of the cotton must reach the bottom of the tank but must not be too “big” to avoid blocking the plunge holes and thus thwart the capillarity.

Use a single resistive wire. After several assemblies, I came to the conclusion that the best compromise was offered by a kanthal A1 coil of 0.40 on six turns spaced so as to obtain a total resistance of 0.7Ω. At this level, you will be able to operate your atomizer between 17 and 30W without suffering the pangs of too much heat and the reactivity of the material will create a satisfactory response from the coil.

Do not be too greedy ! Even a simple 0.6mm wire is always possible but the weakness of the resistance obtained, coupled with the insufficient air draft to cool such a coil will generate too much heat.

In the category of qualities, I noted a fairly abundant vapor with my final assembly, even astonishing vapor for such an atomizer. The density and texture are there even when using a particularly low airflow.

The flavors are medium, rather round and lack a bit of definition. Using a liquid that I know very well, I of course found the general taste but we cannot speak of surgical precision and this is undoubtedly a downside for a dedicated atomizer, a priori, in search of flavors. What's fault ? No doubt the unnecessary complexity of the plate and the lack of rounding of the dome of the evaporation chamber. I bet that with a postless tray and a dome shape, the result would have been different.

This will therefore be the only negative point that I will note in use. Be careful, I didn't say that the Rose was a dull and tasteless atomizer, but I expected better and more competitive in the matter. And, if the level of intrinsic quality (finish, assembly, machining) is largely equivalent to the competition, there is a lack of taste here that does not put the Rose at the level of a Berserker or an Ares. It is all the more unfortunate that the price, the print run, the general quality are modeled on it. And even more if we consider that the vapor released is rather surprising for such a product and that the reliability is irreproachable (no leaks, no dry-hits). And alas, it is the same with assemblies in 1.2 or 1.5Ω.

Recommendations for use

  • What type of mod is it advisable to use this product with? Electronic
  • What mod model is it recommended to use this product with? A simple battery box that can supply 30W
  • What type of EJuice is it recommended to use this product with? I do not recommend it for 100% VG liquids
  • Description of the test configuration used: DNA 75, various liquids of different viscosity, assemblies in 1.5, 1.2, 0.9, 0.7, 0.4Ω
  • Description of the ideal configuration with this product: 0.40 kanthal mount for 0.7

was the product liked by the reviewer: Bof, it's not the craze

The mood ticket of the reviewer

Rose is a good atomizer. Reliable, devoid of leaks, beautiful and well built, it is positioned as an effective challenger against fierce competition.

Available at a decent price, it offers a good value for money and will be the perfect companion for a beginner rebuildable.

Very generous in volume and texture of vapor, it unfortunately ignores taste precision and this is a crucial point in the category. Even if the taste generated is not ridiculous, the lack of definition of the aromas is a downside that matters at this level of the range. The competition is tough, Fumytech outperforms its competitors on almost everything, but “pretty much” is not enough until the flavors are up to standard.

In short, a V2 will be welcome to lessen these youthful flaws and I'm ready to bet that it will be flawless!
