The Kraken is a high-end atomizer at a price of 139,90 euros. It is a “Génésis” type atomizer which allows assemblies to be made with one or two resistors. We find its serial number on the central axis of the atomizer.
The Kraken has a diameter of 22mm, its height is 44mm without drip tip and without the 510 connection. On the other hand it is his weight, since my balance shows 72 gr.
It is stainless steel 304 and its tank is Quartz with an effective capacity of 2.5 ml.
Overall I found it was solid and of good quality, However for its price, I regret that no drip tip is provided.
The pine is not adjustable
On the other hand, there is a particularly efficient air flow on the top of the atomizer which corresponds with a reduced chamber.
This air flow is adjustable by rotating the top cap on the tank.
The tank is equipped with two horizontal cyclopes on each side of the tank, they are fixed and measures 3mm of length on 1.5mm wide. The adjustment is made with the rotation of the top cap which is inserted in this tank and equipped with a triangular opening. When the two openings are superimposed, they allow more or less aeration (see diagram above).
For packaging:
One receives occurs in a small cardboard box, too simplistic with regard to are price.
It comes with:
- 2 Steel cables for a Genesis steel + sheath assembly
- 1 end of Mesh for a montage Genesis Mesh
- 1 wrenches for screws (2 screws mounted on the atomizer) that close the unused hole of the single coil assembly
But no instructions for use.
Yet this atomizer has multiple possibilities with a single or double coil assembly, as well as montages
In Cable,
In wick cotton, silica, or other
In Mesh
I tested the three assemblies with a Kanthal resistive wire of diameter 0.3mm (0.25mm for the assembly Mesh)
Single coil assembly cable |
For the realization, I used a cable of 2mm, a silica sheath of 2mm and a Kanthal A1 of diameter 0.3mm. I made 5,5 turns for a total resistance value of 1.2ohms.
A- We begin to measure the length of the cable we need
B- The cable is cut using the appropriate clamp, otherwise, I use a vise clamp (to prevent the cable from fraying) and a cutting pliers.
Then I check that the cut end is at the right size
C- (1) I put half a cable, the silica sheath without cutting it.
(2) I do my resistance
(3) I cut my sheath leaving a good margin
(4) I size the surplus of bangs that will land on the plateau so as not to pinch the sheath by closing the top cap
D- I put my cable in the hole of the atomizer
I cut my sheath flush with the cable
I begin to fix the legs of my resistance on the positive and negative studs by making an "S", and I tighten my screws.
Finally, I cut the Kanthal surplus from the paws of my resistance.
E- Slowly I begin to "pulse" to adjust my resistance, remove the hot spots and balance the turns.
I plug the unused hole, screwing with my Allen key, the supplied screw
I imbibe my sheath with my e-liquid
I test my editing ...
F- Everything works, I fill my tank and my atomizer is ready to operate
Single coil cotton wicking
With a Kanthal A1 of diameter 0.3, on a support of 3mm, I made 7,5 turns.
Using a pair of pliers, I tighten the turns and I heat my Kanthal torch to tighten these and remove the elasticity. Thus the resistance keeps a pretty homogeneous and compact shape.
By keeping my support (screwdriver diameter 3mm) I place my resistance on the board and I fix his paws.
I cut off the surplus Kanthal and I remove the screwdriver that served me as support.
I pulse and using a clip, I adjust my editing.
I place my wick Cotton
I imbibe my wick and I place my Tank.
The filling of the tank is very easy
I test by switching on my setup, I get a resistance value of 1.4 ohm and a superb vapor!
Double coil Mesh assembly
For my Mesh mount, I used two pieces of 325 Size Mesh, and 0.25 Diamant Kantal.
To roll this mesh into a "cigar" shape, I used two 1.2mm diameter needles.
Check that the mesh of your Mesh is in the vertical direction for the capillarity.
Before rolling my Mesh, I pass it entirely torch, for oxidation, but also for better hold when I'm going to roll.
I roll my first piece on the needle in the direction of the frame.
I do the same with the second piece and I thus obtain two hollow cylindrical “cigars”.
I make my resistances on the Mesh keeping my needle support and avoiding to tighten my Mesh.
There are other methods of work because obviously, these can be mounted directly on the plate of the atomizer.
Before mounting this on the atomizer, I pass all torch and I evenly regulate my turns.
I place my resistances on the board forming an "S" before fixing my legs.
I pulse (switch) several times to balance the set and remove hot spots.
So, I get a resistance of 0.6 ohm.
Comments on the Kraken on different montages
The Kraken is an atomizer that has excellent conductivity and is made for subohm. With its open air flow, it will satisfy fans of big clouds.
However, Kanthal fixture / cotton wick, requires a very good capillarity of the wick which must not be packed. Because the length of the wick and the conductivity of this atomizer makes him a great consumer of juice with a dense vapor and a good hit.
Thus, poorly executed, this assembly is exposed to many dry hit, as for the flavors, they are average.
For cable and Mesh fixtures, it is undeniable, that's why this atomizer is made, with a good hit, excellent steam and flavors much better than with the wick.
The heat dissipation is done properly and the air flow wide open will allow you to vape in subohm.
I have not found any significant differences between these two montages, but the one with the cable gets dirty much faster than the one with the Mesh, which you will keep for a long time.
