Reviewer comments on business characteristics

After having been favorably impressed by the promises kept by the SMY260 in its category and appreciated the concept and the modest price of the SMY Kung-Fu, I admit that I expected a lot from the SMY 60. It must be said that, on the paper, it has everything to please: a square but attractive aesthetic with a carbon fiber plating, a solid aluminum structure and beautiful appearance and the famous color screen whose photos have made more than one vapot drool. In addition, with 60W, it came to compete directly with an IPV 2 MiniV2 with an incredible chipset but a finish to say the least perfectible or with an irreproachable and completely successful Smok M80 but having the disadvantage of having batteries owners and even see an HCigar HB50 which had amazed me by its simplicity and its performance in pure rendering. There was therefore a place to take for the Chinese manufacturer Simeiyue in this range very popular with the community.

But it is missed and the manufacturer completely misses this opportunity. We are therefore going to write together this chronicle of an announced death which is due only to a single concrete parameter: it is good to want to make boxes, even if we should test them before selling them ... So is it concretely when a manufacturer is paying the price for its customers?

Reviewer's comments on physical characteristics and perceived quality

109 €! Let's start there if you don't mind. This price alone demonstrates the manufacturer's complete ignorance of the segment. We are between 20 to 40 € above the references of mid-range boxes. You can tell me that we are much cheaper than an SX Mini or a Vaporshark but that would be to forget that these two mods are equipped with famous chipsets, expensive and being at the origin of major innovations such as the control of temperature. When Evolv or Yihi release a new chipset, the news spreads like the Black Death and we already know that something new is going to happen in the vape. Simeiyue is far from having the same aura as the two cross-country skiers. And, as we will see later, far from providing the same quality, alas. So, if we compare what is comparable, the SMY60 is totally irrelevant in terms of price. For about thirty euros more, Hcigar sells a DNA40 of very good quality and without problems, it…

Size!!!!! The SMY 60 displays the size of a box including two batteries and again, a beautiful! Considering the fact that it only contains one, it almost becomes fun. Lovers of compactness, go your way. Here, we proudly display the dimensions of cloud-chaser boxes but of course, without having the capabilities. Here again, the manufacturer has demonstrated its relative ignorance of the market and its ineffectiveness in miniaturizing its electronics.

SMY60 Size 1SMY60 Size 3SMY60 Weight

I remind you that the SMOK M80 used for the comparison uses two LiPo batteries in 18650 ...

But that could pass if the finish of the SMY60 made a real difference with its main competitors. But here too, the promises of paper turn to pantalonnade. The box presents well, it is beautiful, has an excellent apparent finish and continues to make you dream when you open it. We discover indeed a motherboard fixed mechanically, without a single point of glue and thick wiring perfectly welded. And this is where the dream becomes a nightmare… indeed, it is the closing screws of the internal plastic protecting the electronics which also act as a “guide” to keep the magnetic cover in place and thus prevent it from moving sideways. In theory…. Since in practice, the heads of the screws are too thin and not wide enough to perform this task and the cover moves in all directions, up or down and to the sides, so that the grip of the box is catastrophic. Imagine yourself vaping on the Titanic while zoukant when it sinks and you will have an idea of the effect rendered .. On a box at 50 €, I would have drilled two holes and glued two good big screws but on a box at 109 €, I am enraged !!!!

Fortunately, our sponsor, always in search of good things, warned us that the manufacturer had realized the problem (it was about time…) and had sent replacement screws to the dealers for their customers. Thus, Simeiyue replaces Ikéa and creates the first kit box. Buy a new piece of it every week !!!!

I will pass with courteous silence on the sublime color screen, the only finally outstanding novelty of this box, that the manufacturer had the excellent idea of placing behind a smoked screen…. ! …. ! …. ? … It's great because not only do we lose all the interest in having a screen that is a little more advanced, but also, it makes it unreadable in direct sunlight or even difficult to read in a simple lit room. Unbelievable! Looks like two companies shaped the SMY 60: one that took charge of delivering a nice body and brilliant ideas and the other that took charge of knowingly screwing up all the work of the former.

Reviewer's comments on functional features

If you manage to put your battery back into its housing, you will already be quite good. Indeed, it is imperative that someone tell Simeiyue that the batteries are 18650 and not 18640. I do not speak well on nipple batteries, you can forget them definitely, the box only accepts flat batteries but even in this case, it is suffering and company to manage to insert this battery box in this devil's machine! At this level, I see only an exorcism to manage to debug this box which collects gross errors like a stamp collector. Tested with Purple and Samsung, same thing…. a wound.

We could also argue that for the price of the box, a spring-loaded connection would undoubtedly have been more suitable and that the 510 connector is placed a bit too high on the top cap, which probably promotes air intake by the low for the rare atomizers which are still equipped with it but which ensures that you will always have a day of about a millimeter between the mod and the ato.

As our sponsor had warned me, I also found a difference of about 0.2V at the output of the connection with the one displayed on the screen. As we are already no longer with a ready error and I am starting to tire, I will pass on it ... Especially since the best is yet to come.

Vapelier's note on packaging: 4 / 5 4 5 out of stars

Reviewer's comments on conditioning

The packaging does not suffer from any defect. The transport box provided, in the spirit of other productions of the manufacturer, adds a real added value to the mod. There is a square of fabric to remove traces, a clear enough manual, a screwdriver, a charging cable and a paper certifying that the mod has been checked before being shipped. We would have appreciated a medical certificate showing that the inspector was not drunk the day he stamped this paper…. because all doubts are allowed.

Appreciations in use

  • Transport facilities with the test atomizer: Nothing helps, requires a shoulder bag
  • Disassembly and cleaning facilities: Super simple, even blind in the dark!
  • Easy to change the batteries: Difficult because requires several manipulations
  • Did the mod heat up? No
  • Has there been any erratic behavior after a day of use? Yes
  • Description of situations in which the product has experienced erratic behavior

In fact, the mod cumulates the erratic behaviors:

1. You switch and about 0.8s later, the coil starts to heat up. And this, to all possible powers and resistance. When you know it, you can probably live with it, but if you want to be serious, latency of this kind tends to drive you mad!

2. To test the safety of a mod, it is mandatory to go off-road. As it accepts resistors from 0.3Ω, I was therefore very happy to put a Mutation X V3 on it in 0.26Ω to see the reaction of the chipset. Well, straight away, it shows me a superb 0.3Ω… .. let's admit, the precision does not seem to be the favorite playground of the SMY60… Then, teasing, I turn up the power to 60W and I fire. The screen panics, displays a superb “Low Voltage” (?). I say to myself: “ah, well, he's reacting, he's talking to me !!!!”. Alas, he does speak, yes, but he continues to merrily fire and my atomizer to throw steam everywhere! So we have to be clear. Either the mod is protected, displays the blah it wants and it STOPPES the vape, or it vapes and it leaves us alone! Where is the security in there?

SMY60 Error

I also specify that the photo has been retouched to accentuate the luminosity ...

Vapelier's rating in terms of ease of use: 2.3/5 2.3 5 out of stars

Reviewer's comments on the use of the product

Beyond all that, there is the rendering. Because in fact, this is what predominates above all, that the vape is pleasant, isn't it?

At a moderate vape, between 12 and 20W, if we except the latency of almost one second, we note a dry rendering, without voluptuousness, which crushes the flavors, which gives a taste of hot even by lowering the watts, a sign that the algorithm smoothing is not developed in this power range. It's simple, it's like going back to the good old days of 33Hz chipsets.

At higher power, if the latency is always the same, the chipset seems a little less peremptory and gives a better rendering but between us, we cannot compare the quality of this rendering with that of the competitors. A 30W or even 20W Istick will give you much more, much better for much less. And I'm not even talking about an IPV2 Mini V2 or a SMOK M80…

I could also tell you about the impossibility of regulating the cut-off and the rage to undergo, after ten seconds, a coitus interruptus which one would do without. I could mention the automatic bypass setting which means that whatever the moment you resume your mod, you have to simultaneously press “+” and “-” to unlock it. But out of all this, you have already understood what you have to do.

Let us note all the same the display of the output intensity, functionality which I dream of for months, but which on this mod seems as incongruous as a button on the right buttock of Miss France.

The mood ticket of the reviewer

I would like to thank Carlos du Monde de la Vape who, rather than keeping this mod for sale, preferred to consult us before because he was aware of the many problems that seemed to exist. I want to say that it is quite rare for a shop to make such an effort because it is so much easier not to test the products that we sell and to rely on divine providence for the rest… .. To date, the World of Vape has withdrawn the SMY 60 from its catalog and forwarded the information to the manufacturer. He had already withdrawn the SMY 90 from himself for chipset problems (here's what…).

We could have done a yes-yes review and say: “yeah, it's bullshit, the screen is pretty and it makes more steam…” but if doing material tests is like praising any pile of mud, what's the point for the vaper and the community? I'm undoubtedly a dinosaur but for me, a test is to be frank and say what you think of a product and not to write an editorial article to please something or so or a way of thanking the hand that gave the material. All of the material we test here is on loan, not donated and if we find that a material is not successful, we tell both our partners and you. This is what we owe you and this is why we exist.

At the last news, the information went back to the manufacturer and he decided to launch a second batch by correcting “some” problems. We hope that all the feedback will have been heard and that this second try will be at the level of what we could expect. We will be there to verify it. And until then, I can only strongly advise you to defer your purchase and advise the shops to return their stock to the manufacturer. Because they are undoubtedly the first to be had ...
