The Provari is a true legend of the Vape. He reigned supreme for a long time, becoming for a time the essential mod to own as there was so much unanimity around him. Then the pipeline came in, seriously jostling it. Last year ProVape returned to the conquest of its lost glory and presented itself against the Chinese armada of supercharged boxes with the P3. This tubular mod was not completely convinced, especially as its update paid off. It is therefore with a certain delay that the American giant arrives with a box: the Provari Radius.
And there… .. the elephant gives birth to a mouse. A medium-sized box, a plastic body, a power of 40 small watts and not even a temperature control. All at a price of 189 €, I do not get everything. What does ProVape believe? That it can find its place with such a bland copy, a P3 in the form of a Box?
Well, such a name has the right to a fair trial, so let's open the session.

The radius, with a name like that, we imagine that it is an ideal extension of the arm.
On the photo, the design is correct and there is no doubt about the affiliation of the box, the body is plastic not very engaging. the screen is tiny, only the switches seem to be of very good quality as usual. Once in hand, things change a lot.
Even if the box does not shine particularly in the sense of compactness, its proportions are harmonious. Its rounded shape on the edges gives it good grip in the hand. The plastic which is a very good quality polycarbonate marked in the manner of a pistol grip ensures great comfort and good grip.
The two stainless steel top caps are precision machined and engraved. On the top, the excellent connection of the P3, with its system allowing in particular to replace its 510 thread if it is faired with a nut ato.
The bottom cap is held in place by two toothed screws, which opens up access to the battery, of course, but not very practical. Moreover, the battery is already in place, ProVape has chosen a Samsung 25A. This suggests that it will be necessary to favor recharging via the mini USB port.
On one of the edges, another steel piece stands out. It fits perfectly into the beginning of the rounding of the edge then offers a flat surface which accommodates the fire button, the [+] and the [-]. This configuration offers perfect ergonomics.
The fire button is made of translucent plastic, which allows it to be illuminated in one of the 7 colors available. This button is quite big, it is perfectly adjusted in its enclave. This button is a model of its kind, its stroke, its “firm tenderness”, its reactivity, its sound discretion, make it one of the best switches I have used.
The other two adjustment knobs are also nice to handle.
The screen is clear, but it could still have been bigger. Here we end up with a screen of the same size as on a tubular mod, yet there is no lack of space.
At this stage we are still facing a beautiful product. It's tough, it's perfectly finished. All are adjusted to the coat. ProVape shows us here all its know-how in terms of quality, a little more daring on the design would have been welcome, but let's be clear, it's still a beautiful object.

Let's immediately eliminate two points about this high-end box: it does not have temperature control and it only makes “40” watts of maximum power with an ampere limit of 9,5 A.
Here we are, we have to do with a chipset that is almost a year late. ProVape arrives at the end of 2015 with this product which displays 40W of power, while Evolv offers 200 watts, even Joyetech offers 200 watts with its Wismec RX200. So, let's try to judge the product by disregarding this data.
We therefore have a box offering a variable power mode. And that's all ? No, not quite.
The radius offers a booster system that increases the power on the start of the puff over a time that can be varied from 0,25 to 1,25 seconds on a scale of 5 steps. It is rather effective in countering the diesel effect that we have with certain types of resistors.
You can also record 5 power and boost settings.
The screen displays the union minimum: resistance value, power and battery level. Besides, about the charge indicator, it displays the battery level depending on the resistance value, the power and the way of vape (repeated or spaced). It is therefore a little visually confusing because the indicator varies just by changing the ato.
In the less useful but nice series, you can change the color of the LED that lights up the buttons. There is also a system that calculates the savings that are made in relation to tobacco consumption.
Nothing revolutionary, but everything works perfectly, the vape is pleasant, wise but full, perfectly regulated. The so-called “smooth” vape is common now, but still, we still feel a little more characteristic of high-end chipsets.

Do I really have to talk about this aspect?….
ProVape offers us its latest addition in a simple and ordinary cardboard box. Even an Istick is better presented. As a bonus no instructions, if you do not have internet, you manage on your own! A vulgar fluorescent yellow sticker suggests you go to the brand's website to download the manual. Of course, on the site, you will find it in French, but all the same, there is a foutage de gueule. The only positive note: it is the presence of the battery in the box and the charging cable on the reel.
But honestly, a box at 189 dollars, made in the States by a legend of the vape, we were entitled to expect much better.
Appreciations in use
- Transport facilities with the test atomizer: Ok for an inside jacket pocket (no deformations)
- Disassembly and cleaning facilities: Easy, even standing on the street, with a simple Kleenex
- Easy to change the batteries: Easy but requires a workspace to lose nothing

The box is compact enough to consider taking it with you. The autonomy is correct, even if the cut-off is set at 3,25 volts. The box can be used when it is recharging, you can change the batteries, but the chosen bottom cap maintenance system will not make your task easier.
The adjustment of the beast is not yet intuitive but the contribution of buttons +/- simplifies the use of basic functions. An update obviously brings some fixes that improve menu navigation. This box is not necessarily made for beginners even if it displays a high level of security, security which also serves as a banner / shield for the brand to justify the low level of power of its box.

The mood ticket of the reviewer
The Provari Radius will not become the new benchmark of the vape, one might even think that it is not really interesting, especially because of its price. Indeed, the radius offers for 189 €, a box which displays a technological delay of several months compared to the many competitors present in the high end sector.
So this is not the resurrection that followers of the brand were waiting for. As always putting safety first to explain its choices, the brand is struggling to evolve in the current landscape.
But the picture is not as dire as that. The quality of manufacture, the design, the formidable fire button, the ergonomics and the quality of vape still make it an interesting product. For me, this box is for you if you are looking for quality, the Temperature Control does not suit you and power is not your benchmark.
Personally, I am seduced by the object and the highly qualitative aspect that emerges from it. The vape, even if the functions of the box are a bit behind on innovation, is still a must in terms of feeling and I am often below 40 watts, so the power suits me. The lack of temperature control is, I find, perhaps the most damaging aspect, given the time it took Provape to release this product, they could have frankly laid it to us in TC.
So if your budget is large, you like high-quality, ultra-safe products and your benchmark atomizers speak for medium powers, this box is for you.
