J WELL has decided to tackle the various growth markets in the vaping industry. With this Onyx kit, J WELL offers us his interpretation of the bombinette box, ie the muscular compact. It is therefore a single-battery box (18650), which can reach 75W, and which includes the TC (Temperature Control). A price positioning oriented upscale, the kit is placed just a notch below 100 €.
This box category is currently dominated by the eVic VTC mini which displays a lower price of 30 €, in e-Tron kit version.

Onyx is therefore a compact and rather light box. Its design is, it seems to me, particularly successful. An elongated ovoid shape, wrapped in a trapezoid, here is a summary of its lines which combine rounded shape and tighter lines. A classy and harmonious result. The trapezoidal part is covered with a soft mat black silicone coating which is very comfortable in my case, since I have the model that I would qualify as all black.

The bottom and top cap them, have a more traditional glossy metallic black paint.
One of the faces is deeply marked with the name of the box. One side is rounded to fit the palm of the hand, and the other has its curves interrupted to accommodate the OLED screen, and the wheel button.

The fire button is at the same time the control for setting [+] and [-], in fact, you press it to shoot and it turns left or right to make the settings. It is very well made, does not suffer from any play, it is just a little too flexible in its rotary binding.

The pin is floating, and the 510 thread is the most correct. The bottom cap accommodates, of course, the access hatch to the battery which takes the form of a capsule equipped with a thread, well designed, it can be removed without worry with the fingers. There is also the micro USB port on the bottom cap.

The Jmini XL (the clearo) is also pleasing to the eye, the black body of the tank is pierced with trapezoidal windows which of course recall the design of the box. The top cap and the air flow ring are both ribbed around their entire circumference to provide good grip. The plastic drip tip sees its base fitted with a metal ring, like a heat sink, again no major lack of taste, if not perhaps, the difference in color between the bottom of the clear metal clearo , and the top in slightly tinted metal.

A product well made overall, I must admit that I am rather enchanted by this Onyx, it also charms most of the people who vape in my entourage, whether they are girls or boys.

The Onyx has a proprietary chipset capable of handling 3 modes of vape. A classic VW variable wattage mode, operating over a range of 3 to 75W. A wattage mode coupled with a temperature limitation, in which you will set a maximum temperature, which will never be exceeded whatever the power you select. And finally, a temperature control mode which will accept the assemblies / resistances: Titanium, Ni200 and SS (Stainless Steel).

The box is equipped with a complete arsenal of protections, so it does not pose any security problem.
The OLED screen shows you the power, or the temperature depending on the mode, the resistance value, the instantaneous voltage, and the remaining battery charge in the form of a pictogram and in percentage. It is readable, except maybe in some somewhat complex menus, in which case the information looks like an Aztec temple writing.
In summary a complete box, which embeds most of the functions in vogue, J WELL however once again forgets the TCR, and when we aim for the top of the range, that we adopt a high price, this kind of detail can stain .

J WELL masters design and presentation. The pack is presented in a beautiful box covered with black fabric, the lid of which remains closed thanks to a magnet system. Inside, the box, the clearo with two resistors, the USB cable and a notice in French. J WELL affirms with this packaging, its desire to be part of the high-end brands and this packaging is up to the task.

Reviewer's comments on the use of the product

In use, the box is very attractive. Compact, it slips easily into a pocket. The vape it offers is very pleasant, the ergonomics are very good. Navigating the menus can be a bit confusing, but the French manual will help you and you will get to grips with it.
The only real downside comes from the lack of locking of the power selector. The dial is very flexible and you will accidentally change your settings over and over again. It is very heavy in the long run, a simple double click with the button to neutralize the dial would have been sufficient for example.

The accompanying clearomizer can be filled from the top without difficulty, even if the hole is a bit small for some pipettes. The capacity of 4ml is correct. The big plus of this clearo are the coils developed with Fiber Freaks which offer a very correct rendering of flavors. The air flow adjustment is simple and efficient.
An attractive and homogeneous whole, but strongly that J WELL solves concerns with the dial.

The mood ticket of the reviewer

I like the Onyx very much, it is well designed, it combines beauty and ergonomics. The electronics work perfectly and offer a quality vape. Associated with the JminiXL, the kit does the job perfectly and is able to seduce the greatest number. Of course the beautiful only asks to be associated with your favorite atomizer. Even its main flaw, namely the too soft wheel, failed to dampen my enthusiasm.
I could fall for it, if the price saw itself planed by twenty euros. But let's be clear, if money is not a drag for you, let yourself be tempted by this box, which I am sure will become your best ally on a daily basis.
