Reviewer comments on business characteristics

When two vaping giants meet, team up and cooperate, they can make sparks! “Inspired by Taifun, made by Aspire”

The German Taifun, specialist in reconstructable atomizers and the High End, genius designer of great innovations in the technology of the vape and Aspire, the Chinese company, world leader in the design of clearomizers and coils have joined forces to give birth to the Nautilus GT. Each of them brought the best of their knowledge and we are witnessing the meeting of two worlds. Will Taifun's design quality and precision be reflected in Aspire's mainstream production and craftsmanship?

The Nautilus GT is a versatile clearomizer that ranges from the tightest vape (MTL) to a restricted air vape (RDL). Sold between 29 and 32 €, it is in entry-level equipment. The German Taifun did not get us used to that! It's even surprising if the tool lives up to the quality that the brand promises. Has the manufacturer Aspire succeeded in combining its manufacturing specifications with the Taifun quality requirement? We will detail and scrutinize this little mutant called Nautilus GT.

Reviewer's comments on physical characteristics and perceived quality

The Nautilus GT inspires confidence the moment you hold it in your hand. There is matter! Its weight betrays the desire not to skimp on the material used. Cylindrical in shape, its resemblance to its big GT brothers from Taifun is indisputable and it belongs to the same lineage. The pyrex of the tank is protected by stainless steel bands like all Taifun atomizers.

This clearomiser is available in different colors: metallic gray, pink, silver or black. The color is certainly a story of taste but it also indicates a difference in the materials used. All are in stainless steel but the pink is gold plated, the black tank is in DLC (Diamond Like Carbon or amorphous carbon) for more solidity. DLC, a small technical parenthesis, is a thin and hard layer of graphite carbon bonded to diamond particles on an object. In addition to its decorative role, the DLC deposit is distinguished above all by its inalterability, its resistance to corrosion, its high hardness. In short, an object in DLC will be much more resistant.

Everyone can find the one that will best match their mod and their vape mode. This is also why the price may differ depending on the version chosen.

Let's take a closer look at the anatomy of the Nautilus GT and see how it's made.

First of all, the top-cap: a great innovation!

The top-cap of the Nautilus GT is innovative. At its base, an Ultem part equipped with two O-rings sinks into the chimney of the tank. This piece has several uses. If it prevents the unpleasant rise of liquid, prevents vapor loss by landing directly on the resistance and acts as a flavor concentrator, it also makes it possible to limit any liquid leakage. Ultem is a polymer resin that has many advantages. It offers a high heat resistance, exceptional strength and stiffness but also resistance to chemicals.

The top-cap, notched for better grip, is easily unscrewed in 1/4 turn. Two marks must be aligned to unlock it and you just have to pull gently upwards to remove it.

The Nautilus GT tank is made of pyrex and contains 3ml of liquid. You can find this tank in PSU. So no! It's not a football team! PSU or polysulphone is also a polymer. This high performance engineering plastic has excellent thermal, mechanical and electrical qualities. This PSU tank can hold 4,2 ml of liquid. The pyrex is protected by a steel cage like all the Taifun GTs.

The Bottom-Cap welcomes resistance. This is easily screwed into the bottom of the tank. You can therefore change it even if your tank is full. You just have to reverse your clearomiser, unscrew the bottom-cap and remove the resistance to change it. While you change your resistance, take the opportunity to observe the air inlets of the equipment. The airflow of the Nautilus GT is very efficient and offers the user to vape in different ways. And since a good diagram is better than a long speech, here's how it goes:

The airflow ring will allow you to choose the desired opening diameter to obtain the type of vape chosen. This ratchet ring, notched, turns with a small “click” to make sure you are in the right place. The air entering fully benefits the resistance and promotes the concentration of flavors.

At the base of the bottom-cap, the gold-plated brass 510 pin is rather short and not adjustable. The length of the pin can be more or less long but today the mods have a positive stud on spring, so we can think that the Nautilus GT will be accepted by all mods.

The Nautilus GT is signed by the two manufacturers under the Bottom-Cap.

This Nautilus GT is well designed and made. The quality of the machining and the finishes is indisputable. The threads are of good quality and the seals play their role correctly. The rings are easy to handle. The whole is quite heavy, but isn't that a guarantee of quality?

Reviewer's comments on functional features

The clearomizer imagined by Taifun had to be MTL, it is still its original specialty, even if the brand also has a good number of DL atomizers! Aspire, he is the specialist in clearo and especially resistors. This is where their collaboration becomes effective. The Nautilus GT will allow you to vape in several ways. First of all thanks to its airflow of formidable precision. No less than 5 different settings are available.

The ratchet airflow ring will be positioned on the opening of the chosen diameter. You will go from a very tight vape to a restricted air vape without having to change the clearomizer. It's interesting because first-time vapers initially look for a tight vape that will remind them of their cigarette. But little by little, they will be able to discover a more aerial vape. On the other hand, some liquids vaporize on a tight draft while others need more air. This versatility is one of the major assets of the Nautilus GT. On the other hand, Aspire, with its competition coils, will allow this clearomizer to be efficient in rendering flavors by controlled evaporation processes.

The BVC resistors (Bottom Vertical Coil) from Aspire are all compatible with the Nautilus GT. They are placed at the bottom and vertically for better air flow circulation. The one installed in the clearomizer is the resistance 2S BVC Mesh in 0,7 Ω. The mesh is a small metal plate which allows an overall heating of the cotton and therefore a larger heating surface. The flavors will be better felt and the vapor will be more dense. The vape will be warmer and more "punchy".

The second resistance is BVC 1,6o Ω . This is made of a very fine coil and organic cotton. Its low resistance makes it compatible with nicotine salts and allows you to vape tight.

Depending on your vape and what you are looking for, you will orient yourself towards different resistances. Just remember that the higher the resistance value, the lower the power at which you will vaporize.

Apart from the resistors offered in the packaging, Aspire has made sure that its material is compatible with other BVC resistors of different values. You will have the choice between 0,4 Ω - 0.7 Ω - 1,6 Ω - 1,8 Ω - 2,1 Ω. Enough to vary the sensations and make the Nautilus GT even more versatile.

On the other hand, you will need to be very careful with the liquid used. These resistors will not withstand liquids with high levels of vegetable glycerin which make the liquid too viscous and prevent it from diffusing into the resistance and suddenly foul your equipment prematurely. Speaking of liquid, the capacity of the tank is 3ml. It is little, it is true. However, taking into account the fact that this material will be used mainly with high resistances and therefore at low power, the liquid consumption will be reasonable.

Those who want to opt for the BVC in 0,4Ω have the option of purchasing the PSU tank which has a capacity of 4,2ml. This tank sells on average between 4 and 5 € in online vape shops.

Drip-Tip Features

  • Drip tip type: 510 Only
  • Presence of a Drip-Tip? Yes, the vaper can immediately use the product
  • Length and type of drip-tip present: Short
  • Quality of the drip-tip present: Very good

Reviewer's comments on the Drip-Tip

Two materials for this 510 diameter drip-tip: the golden ultem and black plastic. Two O-rings help it to stay on the top-cap. Its short shape (16,5mm) and its thin diameter (5mm) will allow fine aspirations. The ultem is very soft in the mouth, avoids any overheating and allows to keep the pleasure throughout the vape.

Reviewer's comments on the use of the product

I tested the Nautilus GT over several days and with several types of liquids and, of course, the two coils supplied. To start, I used the Jac Vapor DNA 75 mono battery mod. First, I chose a liquid whose viscosity was 50/50 with the 2S BVC Mesh resistance in 0,7 Ω.

After starting the resistance (essential step!), I set the mod to a power of 25W. The flavor rendering is excellent and very precise. The resistor responds correctly up to 30W. Beyond that, the dry-hit reminds me that you should not push granny in the nettles! The airflow adjustment is surgical and I preferred the larger opening to have more material in the mouth. The vapor produced is quite dense and the hit felt rather correct for a nicotine liquid in 3mg / ml. On the other hand, when I wanted to change the viscosity of the liquid (≥ 50 VG), the resistance appreciated moderately and quickly clogged up. In a few days, I had to change it when it should have lasted several weeks with normal use.

So, I took the opportunity to mount the BVC 1,6o Ω. The dismantling of the first is very simple and above all, no need to empty the tank. You just have to reverse the beast, unscrew the bottom-cap. The resistance comes out of the chimney, you just have to unscrew it from the bottom-cap and replace it. Again, it must be initiated by taking your time. Obviously I changed the power of the mod, 15 W is enough. Clearly, this resistance is made for tight pulling. The flavors are less precise with the airflow wide open, I opted for a tighter draw in order to have a good rendering of flavor. The vapor is decent and the hit average.

This clearomizer has the ability to seduce first-time vapers because it accepts resistances favoring tight vaping, high levels of nicotine or nicotine salts can be used without problem. On the other hand, it will be necessary to be vigilant not to use liquids having a level of vegetable glycerin (VG) too high. On the other hand, the Nautilus GT is very easy to handle. Both to recharge it with liquid and to change the resistance. I did not observe any leaks, the rising liquids are largely contained by the piece in ultem under the top-cap. And in addition, the rendering of flavors is excellent. What more ? Let it last! Well, I think this clearomizer was built to last. The materials are of very good quality and it offers an evolutionary vape.

This clearomizer will also be able to attract more experienced vapers. It is compatible with any electronic mod that can send at least 35W. No need to use large machines with several batteries. He doesn't need it. You can use it all day long without it draining your battery or having to fill the tank quickly. As flavors matter too, I advise more experienced vapers to use it with a mod that has a responsive chipset, like the DNA 75, so that the settings are finer and the Nautilus GT can express its full capabilities.

The mood ticket of the reviewer

Maybe the Nautilus GT will put me back to clearomizers? What happiness sometimes not having to change cotton or coil but simply resistance! The flavors are so well rendered thanks to the coils of Aspire and the design of Taifun, that it would be a shame to do without this clearomiser. Especially since the quality / price ratio is excellent.

So obviously, the Vapelier awards a Top Ato to this Nautilus GT from Taifun and Aspire.
