The odyssey of Nautilus, it is a saga in several volumes that fits perfectly into the great history of vaping. Indeed, the Nautilus first of the name was undoubtedly the first clearomiser which, not only wisely abstained from any leak but which, moreover, allowed to really savor its e-liquids in what they had more complex at the aromatic level. Moreover, the ancestor still sells like hot cakes, proof if there is one that it is not one of those legends that we hear a lot about but that we see little but a standard. fact. A classic.

The rest, every vapoteur knows it ... Nautilus mini, the Nautilus X and a Nautilus 2 who came to give a facelift to the franchise while retaining the founding elements: taste and reliability.

Of course, to love the family, you had to appreciate above all the indirect vape since the tight draft, the only real possibility at the time, was put in the succession of generations. 

However, Aspire, always attentive to market movements, saw fit to offer us a new version of its champion in the person of Nautilus 2S with a mini-revolution in the key: this clearomizer would be able, while respecting the house specifications of reliability and transcription of flavors, to go from the tightest MTL to the most sassy DL! Well then ! 

I remain circumspect because, if it is on paper, the blow of the versatile atomizer is always interesting, the many attempts in this direction have shown that when an ato is good in one area, it is poor in the other. ... But let's avoid prejudices and go to the autopsy to see if the last Nautilus as of today fulfills its promises.

Reviewer's comments on physical characteristics and perceived quality

We find ourselves on familiar ground because the Nautilus 2S is of the same aesthetic vein as the Nautilus 2. Cut like a bullet, the 23mm diameter atomizer is attractive and its general shape contrasts with the rest of the production. Of a rather small size, the clearo will perfectly complement a mini Box and its weight gives the right measure between perceived quality with a good thickness of materials and a feeling of reliability.

From the point of view of the drawing, the 2S breaks down into three parts. At the bottom, just above the 510 connection, we find an airflow ring offering a very good compromise between ease of movement and durability of the setting. On the floor above, a cylindrical pyrex tank will accommodate your e-liquid and let you see the remaining level and the resistance / chimney unit. It is protected by a thick steel shell pierced with two large windows. Protection in the event of a fall of the pyrex is therefore definitely assured. Higher, there is a top-cap allowing to fill the atomizer from the top, small revolution at Aspire, in the greatest of comforts. It obeys a simple kinematics: it suffices to unscrew it then to push it at the level of the arrow engraved on the barrel to release a well-sized opening to accommodate any type of tip. 

Finishing and machining side, we are clearly on an object perfectly realized and thought. The materials, the very flexible threads and the effective protection of pyrex seem to indicate that the Nautilus last of the name was born under the best auspices and bodes well for reliability over time. 

Available in five colors and sold for € 29.90, the object flatters the desire for possession and is devilishly attractive. From a purely cosmetic perspective, it is a success.

Reviewer's comments on functional features

So this is where the real fun begins. Indeed, the Nautilus 2S intends to offer us the best of both worlds by focusing on THE functionality that makes it really new: the possibility of using it in both MTL and DL. To do this, we therefore have a very interesting resistance / airflow ring combo.

The airflow ring presents two sets of airholes. On the one hand, there are five small holes of 0.8mm that we can hide as we wish, from 1 to 5. We will use this reference to operate with the resistance in 1.8Ω, given for a power between 10 and 14W but which will work just as well up to 18W or even more if you use e-liquids that are not too viscous. The draw goes from very very tight, analog cigarette type, to tight but voluptuous but will in no case allow you to vape in DL, that's good, that's its goal! 

On the other side, the airflow ring opens a cyclops-type hole of 10mm by 2 in height approximately, a good size to enter the world of DL. To do this, you will need to use the 0.4Ω resistor which theoretically allows you to juggle between 20 and 28W but that I was able to go up to 40W with a 50/50 e-liquid without getting the slightest dry-hit or crippling heating steam. Of course, it is possible to hide a part of the cyclops to finely adjust its air supply. We will therefore go from a semi-aerial draw to a well-opened draw, allowing the clearomiser to express completely in DL. Be careful, however, we are still not on a TFV 12 and the maximum draw, if it really allows a direct vape, still presents a slight resistance. Personally, this is the type of vape that I prefer so it suits me perfectly. 

The other great novelty is therefore the filling from the top by unscrewing and shifting the top cap. It may be objected that many clearomizers use a simple offset to fill the reservoir and that screwing is therefore completely unnecessary. Nay! Here we are at Aspire and Nautilus 2S must ride the family legacy of the absence of leaks. Thus, we better understand why the coupling of an unscrewing / offset and a good seal will ensure a perfect seal of the system, mandatory on a Nautilus (and not that, in absolute terms!). 

For the rest, we are using proven solutions: unscrewing the barrel from the bottom to change the resistance, the one in 1.8Ω being of the BVC type, classic from the manufacturer. Nothing too rocket science in short, the two functionalities explained above representing the quintessence of the existence of this ato.

Why settle for just one drip-tip when you can have two? Always in the same movement, Aspire So we provide a drip-tip type long stainless steel and a rather short drip-tip type plastic frosted. The first being appropriate for an indirect vape, the second preferable in case of direct vape.

Qualitatively, the two pieces are impeccable and each plays beautifully its score in the field to which it is devoted. We stay cool on 510 ports, which means that you can also adapt the drip-tip of your choice if necessary, even if both provided very well fulfill their role.

Reviewer's comments on conditioning

A black cardboard box, surrounded by a more flexible packaging with a photo of the atomizer and the technical specifications and the required mentions, offers us, in addition to the atomizer itself:

1. Both drip-tips
2. A spare pyrex
3. Two resistors, one in 1.8Ω and the other in 0.40Ω
4. A bag of spare seals

In other words, we have everything we need to start vaping, protected as it should be by a thermoformed foam of good density to ensure transport in optimal conditions. The brief but comprehensive user manual is displayed in English but includes very clear explanatory diagrams. 

Appreciations in use

Reviewer's comments on the use of the product

With the MTL kit, the resistance in 1.8Ω and the adequate airflow, we find perfectly everything that makes sense in the range since its beginnings: tight-draft vape, faithful transcription of the aromas, reliable operation and devoid of the slightest leak. A success, therefore, but very typical Nautilus 2 therefore not surprisingly from the manufacturer and the franchise. Primovapoteurs will be in heaven because the taste is there and well there and the use with peace of mind, the simplified filling and the almost universal availability of BVC coils are all assets that will appeal to beginners. 

Confirmed MTL addicts will also be delighted and will be able to juggle the five positions of the airflow dedicated to them to find the ideal draw.

What about DL then? Well, the result is a miracle. Even if the draw is airy but still remains less open than specialized clearomizers, the taste is there to remind us that the brand does not mess with the rendering of flavors. As for the volume of steam, my faith, it is consequent, whether in MTL or in DL for that matter and, even if it will not allow you to climb on the podium in a cloud contest, it will be quite sufficient. for a generous and voluptuous vape.

In any case, I advise you to use e-liquids of 50/50 maximum for the resistance in MTL and in 30/70 maximum for that assigned to the DL. The liquid inlets on the resistors are well sized for these two cases and the use of more viscous liquids will be more random, preventing chain-vaping and ramping up.

With Nautilus 2S, Aspire reconciles the two worlds and offers us a clearomizer that brilliantly succeeds in establishing itself as the versatile atomizer that many promised but that we still expected. Here, from the finish to the rendering, everything is pure pleasure. The vape rendering is close to perfection and the flavors are restored with great mastery. What to give cold sweats to the competition on the one hand but also to nibble a little on the world of reconstructables because certain high-end taste references are not far from being scratched by the commoner clearo.

Excellent news which therefore deserves a Top Ato, with the best possible rating on Le Vapelier, a 5 out of 5, you read that correctly. The whole being deserved for having achieved what some thought was impossible.
