The Korean modder Footoon®, one of the creators with Kato® from UVO Systems, releases version 2 of his excellent Hades mod. But what could have been taken for an improvement of an existing product is in fact a real revolution. Indeed, the manufacturer has decided to subcontract the production in China, which allows a sharp reduction in production costs reflected in the public price of the mod to less than 80 €. When we remember the price of version 1, at more than 200 €, we can clearly see the evolution !!!!!

There is an urban legend that wants Footoon to have taken this decision to thwart the proliferation of clones as was the case for the first of the name. Difficult to know but given the stakes of the release of a second version of a mod which nevertheless made a lot of noise, I rather believe that the manufacturer took the measure of the real market and realized that the reign overpriced High Ends were currently in recession (the supply exploded) and the market was opening up to high quality middle end, calculated at the fairest price. The future will tell if other reputable manufacturers follow suit.

The Hades is therefore a mechanical mod in 26650 which arrives with a perfectly well placed price and a lot of new things in the belly to attract the envy of “mechanic-vapers” and other Cloud Chasers…

Reviewer's comments on physical characteristics and perceived quality

Hades exudes quality andt has proven, if it were still needed, that Chinese manufacturing can quite compete with the best Western production chains. The steel used is medical grade (and non-surgical like 316L) type 304F and has an excellent brushed finish. The Switch part being polished for a very aesthetic contrast. The general shape, preserved from the first Hades, is therefore cylindrical and strongly flared towards the bottom, which creates an impression of massiveness for a mod which is ultimately not high. So be careful, if the mod is 34mm at the base, its top cap is 28.5mm. 

We can also blame it because rare are the atos of this diameter and, as a consequence, atomizers in 30mm will not have a happy aesthetic effect. On the other hand, the general movement of the form means that we can have a very nice set with atomizers whose diameter is less than 28mm. 

The threads are perfect, very fluid in their operation. And it is very easy to disassemble and reassemble the mod. even a beginner in mechanical mod will not encounter any problem.

Reviewer's comments on functional features

Lots to say about this aspect of the mod. Because, if we can easily be content to insert a battery and vape, we will be well inspired to go further to get the best out of it.

On the top cap, we therefore have a 510 connection by floating pin. In fact, it is a double floating pin which is supposed to regulate at the same time the height in relation to the atomizer and the timing in relation to the positive pole of the battery. And my gosh, it works pretty well. I was only able to test one type of battery (Efest Green) but the miracle worked immediately and it was ready-to-vape. However, while making the output voltage measurements, I realized that despite the rhodium plating of the connection elements (which is supposed to ensure flawless conductivity), one could have quite a large drop volt. Moreover, depending on the atomizer chosen, the fact that the two pins (ato side and battery side) share the same spring led to a new problem. Indeed, if the ato is equipped with a long 510 connection, the pin “goes in” deeply and exerts a very strong tension on the spring which therefore becomes much less elastic when adjusting the part of the pin which makes contact with the 'battery.

To overcome these two problems, I removed, as the manufacturer recommends, the two pins and the spring and I left only the central threaded part which remains adjustable. As far as conductivity is concerned, as the table below shows, we are totally a winner. On the other hand, this way of proceeding involves the use of a nipple battery or else the addition of magnetic shims on a battery that does not have one. This in order to maintain a correct setting of the battery. So a downside and an advantage. Personally, I chose the second way of doing things because the returned conductivity has nothing to do with and the efforts required are quite derisory.

Here is a summary table of my measurements, carried out with a tankometer and using a fully charged battery and a Taifun GT atomizer. We could of course have more precise measurements with more suitable materials, but I think the table illustrates the difference quite well. Method A shows the measurements using the mod as is and method B using it after removing the pins and the spring:

It is therefore a mod that can generate very good performance provided you work it a little. We could hope that the manufacturer, who knows this little flaw, could offer in the near future a rhodium part replacing the current system with a more standard but more conductive adjustable system so as not to have to tamper with. (even if it's always nice, a little personal tuning) 😉 

Another aspect to check: When I had the mod in my hands for the first time, the switch was noisy and only fired if the support was well centered. Checking done, it suffices to disassemble the switch, which is very simple, to properly adjust the bearing surface in relation to the locking ring and then to lightly lubricate the seal of the locking ring to greatly improve things. Even if the switch remains easy to handle, it is less flexible than on other mods.

On the other hand, the ring locking works very well. There is, below the part of the switch on which you press, a rotating ring that you can easily move with a fingernail and which therefore blocks, by rotating it by about two millimeters using the switch . No more risk of disassembling your button by accident by activating a ring and no fuss. For me, it's a really good system, very efficient. Of course, even without activating this ring, there is no risk that the switch is triggered by itself when the right mod is placed because it is indeed an “incoming” switch and not in relief from the tube.

Reviewer's comments on conditioning

The packaging does not suffer from any reproach. The cardboard box is pretty, the mod is very well protected by a compact foam. We benefit from an authenticity card with the serial number, a 201 hybridization connector, a bag of spares containing two O-rings, a switch spring and an additional 510 connection spring and a mode of detailed and rather facetious use.

Indeed, the manual shows us a cutaway of the mod with all the nomenclature of the parts, the technical specifications of Hades and the safety instructions but also warnings such as: “Do not throw Hades at people's heads” or “ Don't hit them with ”. Friendly and no fuss.

Appreciations in use

Reviewer's comments on the use of the product

In use and as soon as we have familiarized ourselves with the switch, this mod is really easy. It is quickly tamed and its massiveness and solid construction make it an object that seems cut to last an eternity. 6 vents of good size are present at the base of the central tube in case of degassing and are perfectly integrated into the design of the mod. Of course, depending on your personal use, I can only recommend that you choose the battery that will suit the best. 

The Hades V2 is heavy but remains of a correct size despite its diameter. We therefore avoid the baton effect! That said, it still holds well in the hand and its weight could be a handicap for some. As far as I'm concerned, with my big fingers, it's perfect!

The mood ticket of the reviewer

The Hades V2 is a hell of a good surprise! Arriving at a reasonable price in view of its construction and its finish which suffer from no flaws, this mechanic is largely up to the event! It is not for all that devoid of a few small flaws, such as the basic 510 connection and the somewhat “crunchy” operation of the switch, but with a little time to improve it, we discover an object whose beauty and performance quickly make you forget her youthful whims.

Perfect for lovers of big clouds who will be able to benefit from almost all of the power of their battery, it will be suitable just as well for those who like beautiful mecha mods and who want good battery life. 

It will also suit lovers of beautiful “tubes” because its sober and elegant design makes it quite simply a beautiful collector's item. I personally find it very successful in its simplicity and I particularly appreciated its very fine brushed finish and the excellent conductivity of the rhodium connection elements.

And without forgetting, of course, the quite exceptional price for a mod of this class! Hats off and a personal crush !!!
