Reviewer comments on business characteristics

This product was lent to me by Phileas Cloud, it is the Gimmick box presented by Athea, a small box that is no bigger than a Zippo and little more than a lighter. With an elegant look it is not within the reach of all budgets since it costs 250 euros.

Very compact this mechanical box requires an 18350 format accumulator and a cartomizer of about 4ml of capacity for a diameter of 18mm. Battery life is half a day to one day, depending on usage, with a resistance value between 1.2 and 1.5 Ω. Aeration allows you even direct inhalation.

This box is delivered with a Pyrex cartomizer container, its stainless steel top-cap and the white Teflon drip-tip. All you have to do is equip yourself with the cartomizer of your choice (sold separately), which is housed in the center of the cart-tank (container) since it is compatible with the Billet Hound by Animodz, the VP ASP by Vape Prod, a 35mm Boge Cartomizer, the Billet Bridge by Atmistique and In'Ax by Athéa

For this Test it is with Athea's Carto, In'Ax, that the Genesis assembly will be carried out, a reconstructable carto already tested and of which you will find the information on our website

This set is very easy to use and its transport is really the strong point of this box of a formidable discretion. It is available in 5 different colors: black, red, blue, brown and silver, enough to satisfy all buyers.

Reviewer's comments on physical characteristics and perceived quality

Its size is extremely small since the Gimmick measures only 66,5 X 40,5 X 21mm, its weight will not be the most significant either because fully assembled, with the built-in battery the set-up weighs only 121 grams ( 98grs without the battery).

The body of the box is in 66061 anodized aluminum with a matt glossy brown coating (for my test) which does not mark fingerprints at all. The hinge located at 1/3 of its height is in polished brass, which gives a golden mirror-like band on the outside of the mod which in addition to being of good and solid quality provides a finish perfect aesthetics to this product.

Just under the hinge, there is a window that shows the level of e-liquid remaining in the tank, an opening of 18mm 3mm. Below is the logo of Athea, the name of the box with a serial number whose edition was limited to 400 copies.

The atomizer only reveals its 316L stainless steel top-cap with a white Teflon dri-tip, a set that goes divinely well. This top is screwed on completely so as not to hinder the closing of the box, thanks to a flawless thread, in the location provided with a trip-tip of adjusted size.

Next to this location we have a pivot switch. This swings in order to insert the accumulator, taking care to position the positive pole downwards. A spring accommodates it and helps in its removal, but also to ensure the junction with the knurled screw which ensures contact with the negative pole, under this stainless steel switch. A very pleasant switch to use, which is also spring-loaded and is wedged when closing by a magnetic stopper.

It is a luxury product, of good quality and unusual.

Reviewer's comments on functional features

Compatible only with a single 18350 battery, this box has no lock, there is no 510 connection either because the 18mm diameter tank with the cartomiseur simply fits into its housing and is fixed by screwing the top-cap owner. Only the drit-tip with a standard 510 connection can be changed according to your tastes provided that it does not exceed 12mm height (without its base), which leaves a wide choice.

The contacts are clear and the ventilation very suitable ensures the passage of the air which communicates between the tank and the battery.

However this Gimmick is not a mechanical mod made for the cloud, because the power will be limited with the format of the battery imposed and the resistance which must be between 1.2 and 1.5Ω, it also leaves a reasonable autonomy.

Everything is mechanical so do not look for a USB charging mode that does not exist.

Reviewer's comments on conditioning

This product is received in a black cardboard box with a flap, the box is well set inside to be properly protected. No instructions are provided but an explicit map by 4 drawings how to insert the tank with the carto and the accumulator.

In this packaging you will have of course the box, the tank with a bag of replacement joints, the top-cap which is screwed and the drip-tip. A packaging that seems insufficient and deserves to be accompanied by at least a standard cartomizer type Boge Cartomizer 35mm. Sold by lot of 5 they are not very expensive and allow to use the product immediately without bothering to build the assembly.

Reviewer's comments on the use of the product

Disposable or rebuildable, this box can be used with different cartomizers. It is also compatible with the In'Ax 18 MKII stainless steel atomizer which uses an optional brass ring to adapt it.

It is with the pack as it is that my test is realized, equipped with a rebuildable cartomizer In'ax of the same manufacturer as the box, Athéa, with a mounting of Genesis type with mesh metal.

I'm not going to review you since there are two available here et leavesbut I will explain the steps of the editing.

The reconstructable cartomizer In'ax, unscrews and reveals a kind of rod which ensures the connection of the pin, on which we will mount our mesh. It will isolate the resistance between the positive side fixed to the top of the rod and the negative side which will be fixed by the notched and threaded washer inside the cartomiser body.

This cartomizer is delivered with three types of springs, only one will be enough for the assembly. They have a diameter adapted to the diameter of the central rod associated with a resistive wire of 0.2mm section (the 0,3 is more tense to go up).

This cartomizer is quite aerial with 4 openings that communicate up to the pine.

To make this assembly I used a mesh of # 325 but the # 200 (thinner) also fits very well, cut into a rectangle of 20mm X 30mm. Using the blowtorch, I switch to the flame to remove all the impurities, oxidize it, but also for a better hold when I am going to roll it.

Thanks to the supplied needle, I roll the mesh like a cigar by tightening well.

Then I pass this "cigar" on the central axis of the cartomizer by entering it fully.

I unscrew the toothed washer, I prepare one of the supplied 3 springs and I use a Kanthal A1 0.2mm for the coil.

The first step is to insert the end of the Kanthal into the small spring.

Then slide this spring with the resistive on the axis of the carto

.

Slightly without tightening, make the turns of your resistance, without touching them and to balance the turns to the base.

Screw the washer to secure the tab of the resistor.

Cut the protruding threads flush.

Your resistance is ready to be heated to balance turns and ignition. Start with low power and adjust the turns using a ceramic clamp, take it several times to obtain a resistance that blushes evenly on the mesh without any hot spots (redder point than others) .

When the ignition is consistent and harmonious, your cartomizer is ready for use.

I got a resistance of 1.3Ω.

It only remains to mount the whole.

Fill the atomizer,

Finally, you can add the red seal that is delivered to shrink the airflow.

The mood ticket of the reviewer

This gimmick is a set of good quality, I regret for the price, it is not delivered an additional Pyrex tank because it has a particular size.

This mod works very well with good direct contacts, but since the power is limited to us by a 18350 battery it will be imperative to design it between 1.2 and 1.5Ω, or to buy a ready-made cartomizer which is in the same range of resistive values (up to 2 ohms).

Well thought out, I would have thought that open, the cover would have been awkward, but in reality, the opening, the pressing on the switch and the way to bring it to the mouth is done naturally, without discomfort after two-three manipulations.

Its advantages are obviously its size, weight and ergonomics which allow it to be taken and used discreetly everywhere. Plus, it doesn't consume a lot of liquid and offers an airy vape that can be reduced. No leak observed.

The disadvantage is to have only one type of vape oriented flavor that will not offer big clouds.

It is a mechanical mod without the possibility of varying the voltage or the power, but it is a beautiful… a very beautiful gift!
