It is in this opportune context that Vype offers us version three of its ePen which presents itself as more than a simple update. Compared to the previous version in fact, the object gains in power, autonomy, compactness but also offers a greater capacity of the pre-filled pods, the use of a cotton-based capillary and a volume of steam. and increased flavor precision.

It is first aesthetically that the ePen 3 imposes a very clear bias. Indeed, here we are freed from the omnipresent pen-like effect in the category for a much more sensual, semi-elliptical form factor which relies on increased visual seduction to flatter the desire for possession. Even if it means starting to vape, you might as well do it on a beautiful object, this sentence seems to be the leitmotif that led the designers of the brand. The result is successful and therefore offers a new vision of the object to be vaped where the material is no longer hidden but, on the contrary, shows itself and takes responsibility. At the cost, however, of a slightly larger size but which is an integral part of the concept.
The design is nothing if it is not accompanied by a good grip and here, Vype hits a big blow. The soft-touch coating gives a completely magical touch and again, a certain form of sensuality prevails. We surprise ourselves caressing the ePen 3 as the material is so soft and the act of vaping becomes from then on a pleasure as much tactile as gustatory. Here again, this is a great achievement.
Available in five colors for the moment, everyone should be able to find what they are looking for, this is an additional advantage.
While the standard seems to be moving, for this category of equipment focused on primovapoteurs, towards the delivery of steam by automatic suction, Vype is doing the opposite bet here by providing its ePen 3 with a firing button. It could be seen as a negative point but it is not. Indeed, we move away here from the cigarette spirit to join a vape spirit and act of pedagogy with the smoker by teaching him from the start the particular gestures that he will reproduce throughout his vaping life. The switch is also pleasant to handle, a very short stroke and falling well under the finger.
The finish of the object can not trigger the slightest reproach. Even if the plastic abounds here, the feeling is very qualitative, due in large part to this soft-touch coating where the stamped logo of the brand sits at the bottom of the device. A USB port takes place under the object for recharging.

The beginner, the core target of the ePen 3, requires an object that is easy to learn and whose features remain transparent to use. Here, it is indeed the case. The operation remains basic and quite suitable for inexperienced hands.
To switch on the ePen 3, simply click the button three times after having clipped your capsule. You are ready to vape! Press the button and suck in the steam, nothing too complex. To turn off the device, three clicks again. With each triple consecutive presses, the led on the button will flash three times in green to indicate that the object is on or off.
After 10 minutes of non-use, the ePen automatically switches to standby and will need to be turned on again. An understandable protection to extend autonomy and make the object unusable by children, for example.
Speaking of autonomy, the battery therefore offers 650mAh, which is enough to start. The color code used to describe the remaining charge is quite clear. If the led lights up green, there is between 40 and 100% charge. If the led lights up orange, there is between 10 and 40% charge. If it lights up red, the battery is less than 10% charged. If it doesn't turn on… you have a problem… 😉 A full charge takes about two hours, the good news is you will be able to continue vaping as micro USB / USB charging is passthrough which means it does 'not interrupt the operation of ePEn 3.
The battery benefits from the protections necessary for serene use. In the event of a short-circuit of the battery, the system stops and the LED indicates this problem by flashing red three times. When the capsule is empty, the LED will flash five times in white and the ePen 3 will no longer send out steam. It will then be time to replace the capsule.
The capsule is the vaporization member of the device. It therefore contains a reservoir of 2ml of pre-filled liquid and a resistance of 1.95Ω, composed of a kanthal coil of 0.15mm on eight turns spaced with an internal diameter of approximately 2mm and a cotton capillary to convey the liquid up to the resistance itself. The capsules do not fill when empty, they must be replaced with another. We can always hope to “tweak” but the pod then loses what makes its interest: its tightness (tested for you…).
The little extra? Vype offers us either capsules containing “normal” liquid nicotine, or capsules with nicotine salts called VPro. The goal is to really deal with each profile of a first-flight pilot. The nicotine levels are four in number for the standard capsules: 0, 6, 12 and 18mg / ml, which establishes a nice range of choices that really meet all needs. VPro capsules are only available in 12mg / ml, they will do wonders for average smokers (between 10 and 20 cigarettes per day) sensitive to the pungent aspect of nicotine, the nicotine salts being milder to vaping and being more quickly absorbed by the body. However, in my opinion, a higher rate (18 or 20mg / ml) is missing in the VPro range to satisfy the heaviest smokers.
Be careful, however, the normal discovery kit contains capsules only available 12mg / ml or 0, the latter choice seems a little special for a target of smokers. The VPro Discovery Kit contains capsules in 12mg / ml of nicotine salts.
The power of 6W is ample here, considering the tight draw MTL and the high value of the resistance.

In use, the ePen 3 convinces easily. First of all, the air draft is tight as it should be for a beginner although some competitors are even tighter. Here, the draw is quite consistent with that of an analog cigarette, without excess. The flavors are well transcribed, the resistance does its job well and the volume of vapor, given the power / resistance ratio, is fair. In any case, the beginner concerned by this device, will not seek to obtain a significant vapor. The inhaled and exhaled cloud again corresponds to the smoke of a cigarette.
Even in intensive use, we do not notice any leakage at the connectors, a weakness often observed in this type of equipment. The sealing has been well worked by the engineers. The energy autonomy remains correct and we can hope to vape a quiet day with the 650mAh offered here. The liquid consumption is low and the 2ml of each capsule will last the day in the case of a normal initiatory vaping.
It remains that the physical characteristics of the object make the vape pleasant and quite fun. The grip is easy and the softness of the coating a big plus in a daily vape.

Object of initiation but not that, the quality of its presentation and its capacity to be used in a simple and intuitive way make it entirely recommendable. Its taste and the total absence of leaks are major assets which, added to a sexy and different physique, can easily help the smoker to pass the course. Which is after all its primary goal.
