Reviewer comments on business characteristics

Wismec is on the rise and its association with moderator Jay Bo has borne fruit, each one more fascinating than the last. In addition, the brand is part of the commercial trio composed with Joyetech and Eleaf, which means that the group is gradually acquiring an enormous dimension and naturally establishing itself as the giant of the vape.

The Cylin RTA is based on an old idea that has always fascinated creators. Assuming that a dripper is certainly the object most conducive to a precise vape in flavors and well endowed with vapor but that the flip side is that the autonomy is ridiculous and requires to “dripper” (pour) them. drops all the time to feed it, the designers worked very early on trying to keep the first aspect and improve the second.

On the drawing boards, a dripper that would have a reservoir on top that would automatically drop a few drops to feed it “perpetually” was born in almost all brands as being the absolute holy grail of vapers. But it is a long way from the cup to the lips and, very often, the achievements collided with the law of the universal gravitation and were as many disasters in term of abundant leaks or hazardous handling.

wismec-cylin-ato

Whatever, is not Jay Bo who wants and the creator has embarked on his interpretation of this myth. He therefore offers us the Cylin which uses this principle and strives to transform it into success. Sold at 31.90 €, the price is modest for an ato which presents very well.

All that remains is to verify that good will and talent are sufficient to transform an Arlésienne into success.

Reviewer's comments on physical characteristics and perceived quality

Traditionally, at the top of the atomizer sits the drip-tip. Here, it's more of a plastic pipe that slides around a steel drip-tip that is an integral part of the top-cap. It is a bias that is defended, we can imagine that this choice was made to avoid too high a temperature on the mouthpiece. If you were thinking of using your own drip-tip, this is still possible since the inside of the tip is compatible with 510.

Just below, there is a crenellated top-cap for easy handling, which has three uses. First of all, it seals the tank from the top by holding an O-ring. Then, it will allow you to adjust the orifices through which the liquid will flow on the cotton of the tray. It should be noted that this adjustment will be done blind, no visibility being provided by the system to check this opening. Finally, it is used for filling by being removed and replaced.

On the floor below, we therefore find the tank, in steel and pyrex with a capacity of 3.5ml. It too is held by O-rings on the bottom stage (yes, I know there are a lot of stages in this atomizer !!!). You can open it to change the pyrex if necessary, just unscrew it to remove the upper part. On the lower part, we see two reclosable openings which, under the effect of the manipulation of the cap of the top-cap, come to be hidden or uncovered in order to manage the falling flow of liquid.

wismec-cylin-bursts

We go down again and we find ourselves on the plateau surrounded by a fairly high steel wall. This circular wall clips onto the plate and is held, once again, by an O-ring. Definitely, we like joints at Jay Bo! Nothing very remarkable on this full piece, except two engravings, one representing the reference of the atomizer, the Cylin therefore and the other proudly displaying Jay Bo.

The plateau itself is quite interesting. You should know that it has been designed to work optimally with the Notch-Coils expensive at the parent company. It therefore has two large studs, one positive and the other negative which contain two rectangular openings to direct the airflow stack in the center of the plate, where your coil will reside. On each side of the studs is a TBR socket screw which allows the legs of the resistive to be wedged below. It is not the panacea for exotic assemblies because it is quite difficult to introduce the ends under the screws. We can clearly see here that the plateau was designed according to the typical topography of the Notch. We can of course use other possibilities but the assembly of the single coil is quite tedious in this case, especially if you are using large diameter wires. Contortions in sight, plan Synthol!

wismec-cylin-notch

The tray also includes two mini slots to place the cotton and arrange it well under the gutters.

Just below the plate, there is an airflow ring, independent of it, which holds, I give it to you in thousand, by an O-ring and which is therefore used to adjust the airflow, as its name suggests. . It is notched like the cap of the top-cap thus, all the moving parts used for the adjustments benefit from the same finish and it is happy to find your way around!

Finally, we discover the traditional 510 connection whose brass pin is adjustable by screwing / unscrewing.

the topography of the Cylin is therefore complex and we realize that each block is attached to the others by an O-ring. I'm not allergic to it, but there are still legitimate questions at this level of the review about keeping all of this in a bag, for example.

The aesthetic aspect is neat. We find the green water seals dear to the brand and the steel is well worked on the surface. It's elegant despite a fairly large height of 54mm, including drip-tip.

The exterior finishes are correct and, compared to the price, rather rewarding. Inside, it is a little less worked, we notice some traces of machine machining in places that are not visible like the plate or the bottom of the tank. All moving parts are easy to operate and the rare threads are correct. The seals are of good quality and, since everything depends on their behavior, it will be necessary ...

Reviewer's comments on functional features

Despite the structural complexity of Cylin, the features are easy to grasp.

The airflow ring is efficient and plays its role well. It doesn't cheat because when it's closed there is no air at all, you might as well draw on a pencil. Wide open, it provides a very airy airflow, adapted to the objective of the ato and allows efficient cooling of the coil. About the coil, as you will understand, there will be only one. We can therefore imagine that the aim of Cylin is to be more oriented towards flavors than clouds. Unless you opt for the use of a Notch-Coil, because everything ultimately brings us back to it, which will develop flavors, steam and heat for those who are not allergic to it.

wismec-cylin-airflow

However, there is a big downside to report on this airflow ring. Located at the very bottom of the ato and therefore serving as a bottom-cap, it will therefore be based on your mod and there, very clever whoever will succeed in making it run ... A design fault, in my humble opinion, which makes it difficult to use and even makes possible an unwanted rotation if the 510 connection of your mod is too much cashed in its top-cap.

The liquid flow adjustment ring is also easy to turn and is easily installed on the top-cap. On the other hand, the total lack of visibility which I told you about, makes the adjustment with the pifometer dangerous. Already, it will be necessary to seal the gutters for the filling. Ok, translation: we will have to detach the tank to see what we do before turning this ring to see if the holes are open or closed. And then you can turn the ring to make your adjustment.

Worse: in a vaping situation, how do you know what level of blockage you have? Well you can't ... There is a closing stop and an opening stop, but you might as well tell you that before finding the happy medium or the perfect setting that corresponds to the viscosity of your juice, you will alternate happily between the dry-hits because the cotton is not sufficiently soaked automatically or the large cascades because you will have opened the valves without realizing it. The only alternative is to spend your time removing the tank to visually check the opening of the gutters ... For me, here is a second design flaw which, by itself, destroys any ease of use to which the vapoteur has everything. same right. I remind you that this is about grafting a tank to a dripper, not to pass a Master in mechanics.

Drip-Tip Features

  • Type of attachment of the drip-tip: Owner only
  • Presence of a Drip-Tip? Yes, the vaper can immediately use the product
  • Length and type of drip-tip present: Short
  • Quality of the present drip-tip: Medium (not very pleasant in the mouth)

Reviewer's comments on the Drip-Tip

We have already seen the choice of Wismec to offer a mouthpiece that slides around a steel tube. Well.

In fact, the quality of said tip is average. I admit that I do not yet know what material it could be. Plastic, of course, but this generic term is reductive. Delrin? I do not have that impression of it. The result is a contact with the lips not very sensual and reminiscent of the old drip-tips of the prehistory of the vape, cold and impersonal.

Evaluation of the packaging

  • Presence of a box accompanying the product: Yes
  • Would you say that the packaging is up to the price of the product? Yes
  • Presence of a user manual? Yes
  • Is the manual understandable for a non-English speaker? Yes
  • Does the manual explain ALL features? Yes

Vapelier's note on packaging: 5 / 5 5 5 out of stars

Reviewer's comments on conditioning

As usual with the manufacturer, the packaging is in the spotlight. A polycarbonate box contains:

  • The atomizer, protected by a dense pro-formed foam.
  • A spare pyrex
  • A cardboard box containing two Notch-Coils, black replacement seals (?), Two replacement screws and a BTR key.
  • A cotton pad
  • A multilingual notice, including French, illustration by example that the great manufacturer, associated with Joyetech and Eleaf, understood, him, that we vape a lot in France ...

We notice by reading the text on the back of the box that the tank is compatible in use with house drippers, such as the Indestructible or India Duo and possibly with any dripper having the same internal diameter at the outlet of the chamber. An excellent initiative on paper.

Reviewer's comments on the use of the product

This is where a great idea, a great concept, comes up against the harsh reality of a vape in a situation, beyond the design office, in the field ...

To sum up: dry-hit, light leaks, medium leaks and cataclysmic leaks. Here is the daily life of the Cylin user. I tested with liquids in 50/50, 20/80, 70/30 and 100% VG, the problem remains the same. The lack of visibility of the opening of the gutters means that nothing is controlled over the supply of liquid to the cotton.

If, unfortunately, you make a mistake of two millimeters, the entire tank (3.5ml) pours down on the plateau, out the airholes and you find yourself with a beautiful task on your favorite jeans.

If you want to master and you work by a small step, you will take as many dry-hits as necessary to find the right setting.

Awesome ! There you are. Proud of yourself, you put your set-up in your pocket, the ring turns and presto, Lake Victoria falls again! No problem, we repeat and, to make sure we find it quickly, we remove the tank to visualize the opening. We settle and go again. But by doing this, since the whole building is held together by joints, we have unfortunately pulled a little too much on another floor, which is in turn the trunk. And since, as a good self-respecting vapoteur, you had put glycerin to preserve and facilitate the life of the joints, it is no longer an atomizer that you put in your pocket, it is a Lego tower ...

When the setting is optimized according to the viscosity of your juice, subject to not changing the viscosity ten times a day (otherwise you will have the single single-coil which consumes more than a double without making any vapor), the vape is not terrible.

wismec cylin-deck-1

With a Notch, it still works. Although I find the rendering of flavors very far from a simple basic dripper, we find, thanks to the heating surface of the device, a little steam texture. Conversely, the coil will heat the steel wall around the board as much as it can. The limit of the Notch is in its inability to be cooled sufficiently by even a large airflow. At least that's my personal opinion which I believe is shared by many.

So I mounted a 0.5 kanthal coil on an axis of 3.5mm in spaced turns for a resistive value of 0.5Ω. Nothing very exceptional therefore and yet, in the balance sheet, it is a disaster! Even if the device generates a beautiful vapor and collects strong powers, the rendering is mediocre. Devoid of aromatic precision and above all, totally cold.

The explanation makes sense. Indeed, the vaporization chamber being very high and the airflow very generous, we already obtain a strong cooling of the vapor and this, whatever the power sent. So far, nothing very negative, it is usual. But afterwards, the steam must go up the chimney which is therefore surrounded by liquid in the tank, which further cools it. At the end of the drip-tip, no more texture, no more heat, little taste.

You will retort to me that it is the same in a rebuildable with compression and that the vapor must follow the same path to reach the drip-tip. Okay, but rare are the vaporization chambers so large in this type of ato and it is the combination of the two factors that creates the underperformance of the Cylin.

The mood ticket of the reviewer

Well, between us, I believe that the myth of the dripper fed by a tank above will continue because it is not the Cylin which will provide a practical and usable solution on a daily basis without tearing your hair out. While, during this time, come out a gaggle of atomizers whose feeding is done from the bottom and which all work equally well, like the Limitless for example, without asking existential questions.

It is sometimes very difficult to tackle the urban legends of the vape, and this one is a beautiful one, even having the intelligence of Jay Bo and the expertise of Wismec. However, some atomizers work in this way or almost like the Origin Tank or the Taifun GS series but in these two cases, the liquid is guided and channeled by long gutters and basta. In my opinion, the idea of being able to influence (especially without seeing anything) the flow of liquid when gravity forces the juice to rain is a design error.

I don't like to give bad marks to a material or a juice, especially in our time when technological progress and chemical efforts ensure us a simpler and more efficient material and healthier and more original liquids. But in the case of the Cylin, I make an exception because, in all sincerity, how to advise such an atomizer to anyone?

It will undoubtedly appeal to ultra-geeks, those who adored Kayfun 4 or who practice therapeutic relentlessness to bring out a little cloud of this or that especially badly done ato. I admire them but I also think of the majority of vapers who want user-friendly material, including rebuildable ones, to spend more time vaping and less drilling, assembling, disassembling, modifying and so on. Otherwise, all you have to do is patiently wait for Ikea to start doing it ...
