Reuleaux DNA200 vs. Reuleaux RX200: the Star Wars!

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away ...

- 5 months before TPD

We must admit that we have rarely seen a buzz of this type on social networks or forums. Wismec, a Chinese moderator belonging to Joyetech, brings out in quick succession a high-quality and innovative Presa 75TC box, then a Reuleaux DNA200 (click to see the complete review), equipped as it should be with the latest chipset from Evolv while bringing the brilliant idea of using three 18650 batteries to replace LiPo batteries not necessarily very reliable.

But that's not all, not only the first Reuleaux of the name pushes the competition even across the Atlantic by this system and a slightly lower price but in addition, three weeks later, Wismec gives us a Reuleaux RX200 (click to see full review), powered by a Joyetech chipset from 200W for 70 € !!!! I do not even talk about the Noisy Cricket (click to see the full review), an overpowered box mecan whose price is almost an insult to the supporters of the High-end and which is a resounding success!

In short, at the end of 2015 will have welcomed the advent of an inventive builder, working together with Jaybo, American designer and moderator and who will have gone from the status of notorious unknown to that of mega-star of the vape in the space of two months! Unheard of in vaping memory! Until thinking that 2016 will be the year of Wismec, there is only one step ...

Star Wars R2D2-128x128 FAMILY ACCOUNTS ARE SETTLED ...

Today is the heavyweight fight of the year. In the ring, face to face, two twin sisters compete. White and sea green shorts, here is the RX200. Silver and anthracite shorts, here is the DNA200… The whole family is gathered to watch this fight and the emotion is incredibly dense in the room. Condensation flows from the ceiling like a downpour from Mars and the silence gradually subsides, heavy like a cover, thick like the IQ of a wookie.

At the weighing, we have perfect equality: 200W on each side. In terms of size and scope, we are strictly identical. The shock promises to be hot.

R VS R 1One might think that this fraternal fight borders on the Mafia settling of accounts within the famiglia. It is not so. On the contrary, we are witnessing a real hold-up. By occupying the high-end and the mid-range at the same time, on similar powers, Wismec has achieved two controlled effects: first of all, it makes sure to cover the entire price spectrum from the middle market to the high-end. In addition, it imposes a new price standard.

Indeed, after the RX200, it will be difficult, while the high-end tenors have praised the DNA200, coming to chouch that the RX200, which has the same shape, the same packaging, the same power, roughly the same. same features and the same quality of finish as his big sister, is a low-cost chinoiserie at a discount. There was the watt price before Wismec, there will be the watt price after. Good for consumers. And that the competitors get to work for the riposte.

The little extra, of course, is the discovery of having, instead of LiPo batteries recognized as delicate in terms of security and difficult to change, installed in a limited space all in all the three 18650 batteries. Wismec sends the American competition to a halt with a much more reliable and easy-to-change power supply system, increases autonomy and ensures safety and sustainability. Strike! Straight Flush! Belote and rebelote!

Bilan, the two boxes are a commercial tidal wave. A Tsunami in all shops: “I don't need 200W, don't care, I still take it for the price of a 50W from the competition!”

It remains to be seen which of the two Reuleaux is the best. Should we take into account the quality / price ratio? Embedded technology? Features? We can always argue by saying: “it's not the same thing, one is equipped by Evolv and the other by Joyetech”! The good deal since the two chipsets are comparable in power and functionality. And I can already hear the fortune tellers claiming: “we compare a Rolls to a Twingo”! No, we are comparing a 200W box to another 200W box, where is the problem? Now that we have agreed on the principle of comparison, let's start exploring the Reuleaux Sisters.

R VS R 2R VS R 3

Commercial characteristics

  • Sponsors who lent the products for the review: DNA200: MyFree-Cig, RX200: Tech-Steam
  • Price: DNA200 : 189.90€ RX200 : 69.90€
  • Mod type: Voltage and variable power electronics with temperature control
  • Maximum power: 200 watts
  • Minimum value in ohms of resistance for a start: 0.05Ω

At this level, we can see the unique difference between the two products: the price.

The DNA200 being displayed as a luxury product, very upscale and the RX200 being positioned in the mid-range. Here, the amplitude between the two sums is certainly explained by two factors: first of all, the DNA200 is powered by the EVOLV chipset of the same name which is particularly expensive to purchase, including for a manufacturer. Then, we can see that the research and development carried out on the first was used for the second, which contributes to lowering the cost.

So far, there is no comparison. Prices are prices and can only be discussed after closer examination.

Physical characteristics and felt quality

  • Width or Diameter: 50 x 40 (in mm)
  • Length or Height: 83mm
  • Weight (with 3 VTC5 batteries): 317g
  • Material composing the product: Aluminum
  • Quality of decoration: Excellent
  • Is the coating of the mod sensitive to fingerprints? No
  • All components of this mod seem well assembled? Yes
  • Fire button position: Lateral near the top cap
  • Type of the fire button: DNA200: Mechanical metal on contact rubber, RX200: Mechanical plastic on contact rubber
  • Type of user interface buttons: DNA200: Mechanical metal on contact rubber, RX200: Mechanical plastic on contact rubber
  • Quality of the interface button (s): Excellent, I love these buttons in every way
  • Connection quality: Excellent
  • Quality of manufacture of this product with regard to its price? DNA200: Very good, RX200: Excellent

It is in this chapter that some notable differences begin to appear.

The DNA200 takes a slight, very slight advantage by offering a switch and metallic [+] and [-] buttons while the RX200 is content with plastic buttons. In terms of touch and “feeling”, it's exactly the same thing. Flexible and responsive, very well wedged in their housings, they do not rattle when handling the boxes. So this is not a significant difference. We also notice that the [-] button of the DNA200 is marked with a punch which serves as a touch mark while the RX200 does not have one.

The weights of the two devices are exactly the same, within +/- 1g and the dimensions are identical.

If the general shape is strictly the same, we realize, in the game of 7 errors, some notable differences. The screen of the DNA200 is placed lower on the dedicated side of the mod. Likewise, the screen is stamped into the facade while that of the RX200 is flush with the surface, however protected by a transparent plate. Both choices are good and protect screens effectively. The USB socket, used to recharge the batteries (which I advise against, it is better to use, as long as possible, an external charger) and to upgrade the firmware for the RX200 or to fine-tune the parameters for the DNA200, seems to be more depressed in the case of the latter. On the DNA200, it is more flush and seems less protected. But this may be the test copy.

The finish is of very good quality for both devices. The materials used are the same, whether for the body or the cradle of the three batteries. This is not where the comparison will stumble.

However, it seems important, at this level of the comparison, to remember that the quality / price ratio is an important concept. If the finish of the two products can be considered excellent, it is clear that if we compare it to the price, it becomes exceptional for the RX200 and very correct for the DNA200. Because if we ignore, like any good consumer, the production costs of one in relation to the other, our benchmark then becomes the quality / price ratio.

DNA200: Rating of the vapelier as to feelings quality: 4.5 / 5 4.5 5 out of stars

RX200: Rating of the vapelier as to feelings quality: 4.9 / 5 4.9 5 out of stars

Evaluation of the packaging

  • Presence of a box accompanying the product: Yes
  • Would you say that the packaging is up to the price of the product? DNA200: Barely, RX200: Yes
  • Presence of a user manual? Yes
  • Is the manual understandable for a non-English speaker? DNA200: No, RX200: Yes
  • Does the manual explain ALL features? DNA200: No, RX200: Yes

In this chapter, the differences are more obvious and not necessarily in the sense that one might imagine.

If the two packagings are coherent and made of the same materials, that of the DNA200 is smaller but higher and that of the RX200 is therefore larger and lower! Big deal. Nothing very remarkable, then.

In the packaging of the DNA200, there is a USB / Micro USB cord in a dedicated cardboard box while in that of the RX200, the famous cord lies on the cardboard, like an unfortunate… The two cords are strictly identical. Nothing really breathtaking there either.

However, let's talk about notices. That of the DNA200, a complex object if there is one because of the multiple possibilities of customization and the use to do so of a complete software, fits on a double sheet that looks like nothing. Put on your magnifying glasses or your microscopes, it's written small. In addition, for our friends allergic to Thatcher's tongue, it's missed, prepare your antihistamines! The total lack of this “manual” which still retains the good taste of being called “Quick Guide” is scary when you know the infinite possibilities of adjustment and a good keypad on the ESCRIBE software would have been welcome since it is precisely these functional possibilities which make the difference between the two products.

The RX200 manual is much less summary and, in addition, is available in English, French, German, Spanish and Chinese! We can see more clearly and, even if the descriptions turn out to be short, they cover all the functionalities of the product.

Report all this to the rates of the two boxes and do your calculations!

Functional features

  • Type of chipset used: DNA200: Evolv, RX200: Owner
  • Connection type: 510, Ego - via adapter
  • Adjustable positive stud? Yes, through a spring.
  • Lock system ? Electronic
  • Quality of the locking system: Excellent, the chosen approach is very practical
  • Features offered by the mod: Display of the battery charge, Display of the resistance value, Protection against short circuits from the atomizer, Protection against reverse polarity of batteries, Display of the current vape voltage , Display of the power of the current vape, Temperature control of the atomizer resistances, Support the update of its firmware, Clear diagnostic messages, DNA200: very detailed aesthetic and technical customization
  • Presence of air flow regulation? Yes
  • Maximum diameter in mms of compatibility with an atomizer: 25
  • Accuracy of the output power at full charge of the battery: DNA200: At low power, the power sent seems to be greater than that displayed, RX200: Excellent.

To begin with, I invite you, in order to take an exhaustive tour of the functionalities of each of the boxes, to consult the unit reviews that we have produced. For the DNA200, it is Here . For the RX200, it is There. Likewise, I send you to the software part concerning ESCRIBE that we have developed Here. The software is downloadable There.

This is where the DNA200 will acquire its letters of nobility. All the features that one might expect to find on a high-end box are present for both references. The difference is that every feature is pre-set on the RX200 and you can influence every feature of the DNA200 with demonic finesse. Here is a non-exhaustive list of the customization possibilities that the ESCRIBE software allows you, these possibilities being efficient only when the box is connected to your PC but remain implemented once the cord has been removed:

  1. Real-time analysis of the behavior of the box.
  2. Real-time analysis of your ato, resistance and resistive wire.
  3. Customizing the screens.
  4. Implementation of new resistive wires for temperature control.
  5. Creation of eight vape profiles that can handle 8 different atomizers.
  6. Altering the smoothing of the current to suit your tastes, the signal can be “punched” to be less diesel or “softened” for a smoother rising effect.

Of course, this myriad of possibilities for action on the behavior of your box is accompanied by a certain complexity since it is necessary to appropriate the software and then to understand the effects of each adjustable parameter. I hear from here those who will say that "It is a gas factory and that to vape, if you have to have Bac + 12, we have not arrived" ! I can hear it because everyone has their own choices but this box, through the Evolv chipset, is primarily aimed at vaping Geeks who will find a customization panel that will allow them to better manage their practice and each of them. their atomizers. As the possibilities are virtually endless, they allow you to fine-tune all the material requirements.

Not of that on the RX200, you will have to “be content” with the factory presets. However, you can upgrade the firmware to take advantage of the latest developments.

However, it is in terms of functionality that the major difference between the two boxes is made. The RX200 is aimed at each vapoteur, by its simplicity of action and the quality of its rendering. The DNA200 is intended above all for vaping experts who really want to influence the quality of their practice. They are two opposing philosophies, under the same guise. And if, in the balance sheet, I maintain that this is indeed the comparison of two similar boxes in terms of power and functionality, it is not possible to remove from the DNA200 this diabolical precision that we can achieve , different for each atomizer used and such a level of influence on the personalization of the vape comes at a price.

The rendering in vape and use

Be careful, we are entering the subjective galaxy here. A weight or a height remains a weight or a height, we can see them but not put an emotional charge on them. On the other hand, an appreciation of the rendering can only be, in essence, different depending on the users, the atomizers used or even the assemblies. Do not lose sight of this. Here, we are going to talk about my personal feelings. Even if the test takes place with the same atomizers, the same assemblies and the same liquids to attempt a valid comparison, my way of vape is undoubtedly different from yours. In addition, I will be using the “factory” settings of the DNA200, which deprives the product of much of its value.

For the purposes of the test, I have three atomizers that I consider representative of production:

  • A Taifun GT mounted in 0.9Ω steel 316L and Fiber Freaks density 2 with an e-liquid in 60 / 40 for powers below 20W
  • A Subtank Mini V2, mounted in 0.4Ω in NI200 and Fiber Freaks density 2 with a 40/60 e-liquid for powers between 20 and 50W
  • A Mini Royal Hunter mounted in 0.3Ω in Kanthal and Bacon V2 with e-liquid in 100% VG for power between 50 and 100W
  • A V3 Mutation X mounted in kanthal and Bacon V2 around 0.15Ω for high power tests higher than 100W.

The two Reuleaux are equipped with SONY VTC5 and I still insist on the obligation, for this type of equipment intended to send high currents, to use batteries with high maximum discharge current.

At power less than 20W, the two boxes behave differently. The vape of the DNA200 is punchy and precise. We feel that the current puncher is set to send quickly and well. However, we have no heat effects, even at 19W. We imperceptibly feel that the power sent seems stronger than that announced but this is not the case. It's just the rise time that's fast. Conversely, the RX200 seems more moderate thanks to or because of a slightly longer rise time. Which creates a tastier, sweeter finish. The precision of the aromas goes to the DNA200, the sensuality to the RX200.

In temperature control set to 250 ° C at 50W, the two boxes behave identically. The rendering is powerful and generous in both cases even if, in use, the use of the temperature control is easier on the RX200 than on the DNA200. No problem to report, the vape is quite stable and comfortable. Perfect equality for equivalent renderings.

Between 50 and 100W, same thing. The renderings are perfect and the vapor gushes out like a volcano. The two boxes hold the shock and their design, helped by the presence of SONY batteries (I have no shares at Sony but if they want to offer me, I can accept ...) perfectly holds the shock. Of course, the power consumption begins to be high in both cases.

Beyond 100W and up to 130W, the threshold at which I stopped before emptying all my juice bottles (small nature that I am… Toff would say to me), it's still perfect. The material does not flinch, the vapor becomes immense and intense, as it is predictable that it will be in this case. If it weren't for the need to fill the dripper almost every two jobs, we would be in clouders heaven. Again, no noticeable difference in behavior.

Now some remarks:

  • The battery gauge on the DNA200 appears to be distorted. She is pessimistic and when the EVOLV displays an almost empty graph, the Joyetech chipset shows a good third of reserve. And, to have gone to the end, it is rather Joyetech who was right.
  • The DNA200 consumes more than the RX200 at the same power. I therefore deduce that the American chipset is more energy intensive.
  • In temperature control, the RX200 is easier to use. No fuss, it works without having an engineering degree in your pocket.

Reuleaux vs Reuleaux RX200

Reuleaux vs Reuleaux DNA200

In summary, the difference is rather on the lowest powers but we still find, between 15 and 50W, a tendency of the DNA200 to more dryness, brutality and precision. The RX200 is a powerful box if you compare it to others but it takes a hit on the rise time compared to the DNA200, which personally suits me better but may not be right for everyone. It is therefore recovered on a denser vapor, a softer and more subtle finish. Be careful though, the difference is far from being obvious and requires good training and really having both boxes in your hands to make it. In any case, we can not say that the rendering of the RX200 is radically inferior to that of the DNA200. He is just different.

DNA200: Vapelier's note regarding the rendering: 4.9 / 5 4.9 5 out of stars

RX200: Vapelier's note regarding the rendering: 4.7 / 5 4.7 5 out of stars

Reuleaux vs Reuleaux Inside

IN THE BALANCE SHEET, KENOBI!

The big winner of this comparison is Wismec, for sure. Because these two productions, released almost at the same time, are exciting to explore and to vape.

Where the DNA200 provides infinite customization possibilities and a slightly more precise vape, the RX200 retorts with bluffing smoothness and autonomy. You will probably think: “He gives us the blow of the school of the fans, everyone has won, everyone is happy!” . Well, dear friends, that was not the point at all and I preferred 100 times that more glaring differences emerge which would have allowed me to give free rein to my natural wickedness. But the major fact is, that despite a price difference ranging from single to triple (!), The two boxes play in the same quality category.

If we summarize, we have the same quality finish, an identical presentation, beautiful rendering even if different and similar features. The DNA200 highlights its original capabilities of customization and control parameters. The RX200 values its simplicity of operation and its reliability. The match was exciting but it ended with a no-contest, a tie.

However, since it is also necessary to include the price parameter in this equation with two unknowns, the result will enhance the RX200 which is not only at an attractive price but also completely new. In terms of quality / price ratio, it is today unassailable and has established itself as THE benchmark in all directions, in terms of functionality, rendering, finish and price. Without doubt the best compromise in the world to date.

The DNA200 is far from demerit, but its luxurious price, if it is objectively enhanced by a devastating power and features that prefigure the future of vaping, belongs to the past. There was the moment before the RX200, there is the moment after and this box that looks so much like a droid from StarWars could have been a game-changer in terms of high-end in mods. A “new hope” is on the way, but beware if “the empire strikes back”!
