I like the boxes ...

But what I regret today is that, as the vapers of which I am are as sensitive to fashions as a midinette who watches the Queens of shopping, there are fewer and fewer tube mods that persist in the panorama. Take a look at your favorite shops, the good old cylindrical mechs that I have loved so much and that I still love right now. Too bad that the appearance of a new technology or a new aesthetic almost certainly causes the disappearance of the old one. Maybe we'll come back to it one day, but we have to admit that the hit, whether it is electro or mechanical, is in total loss of speed.

The Kurgan therefore borrows the name of the villainous barbarian from the movie Highlander who wants to shorten Mac Leod to absorb the Quickening. And there is something! Indeed, it is a mod in 26650, which seems to have been carved out of mithril by the dwarves of Moria. A mod for men, even for superman given the size and the weight of the machine.

Designed in France by Pure Diamond and made in the Philippines, the mod will require a complete cleaning when you receive it. With a little elbow grease, you will gain in efficiency on the threads and the switch which are therefore, as too often for pinoy mods, delivered dirty….

At a sale price of 179 €, the Kurgan presents a beautiful appearance and if you are interested, I advise you to act quickly because, as fans of the film know well: “there must be only one left!”

Let's enter the still smoking bowels of the immortal to discover an all-copper mod whose battery tube is covered with a stainless steel over-tube, no doubt to accentuate its solidity, to avoid the nauseating effects of the patina of the metal red on your giant hands or, more prosaically, to allow partially carved engravings on stainless steel to reveal copper in the background. This is the most beautiful effect and looks perfectly good on the two “sides” of the mod, one showing us the Kurgan's Broadsword and the other his helmet worthy of Attila. This decoration is magnificent and of a level of machining rarely achieved before.

Moreover the mod exudes quality. Brushed stainless steel, the engraved copper of the switch with the arms of the manufacturer, the top-cap which contains a fully functional system of gutters to recover any juice leaks and which should not be confused with a system of ventilation, as I initially thought. It's beautiful, it inspires foolproof solidity and all you need to do is forge a beautiful blade to put on it if you too want to take yourself for an immortal and cut yourself off in turn by using it. on call.

However, and I hope this only concerns my copy but I doubt, despite a disassembly / cleaning / reassembly in order, I encountered a lot of missfire problems with the switch. Indeed, the switch blocking function is based on a spring loaded ball which helps the switch to turn on itself and block, either in an “ON” position or in the “OFF” position. And it works well… on paper. Indeed, it is enough to make make an eighth of a turn on itself to the switch to lock or unlock. Awesome !

Alas reality catches up with us very quickly. In the cavities provided for the ball to roll, there is no notch at the end of the path for the ball to block. This means that in practice, the switch turns on itself when it is requested and that it is of course a pleasure to prevent us from firing when we want to. And we end up spending most of the time putting it back on to vape a bit. Too bad because, when the switch is perfectly positioned, its use is quite pleasant and its stroke quite reduced. But this has only happened to me very rarely….

So, even if the quality of execution is really splendid, this defect of design generates a real malaise with the vape.

Reviewer's comments on functional features

In optimal operation (translation: when the switch does not bother us), the Kurgan is really excellent and it is a racehorse in terms of conductivity. 4.12V for a battery charged at 4.2V at the output of 510, it is really very good.

There is no possibility of supplying the air with the 510 connection, which generated only a few vapers. On the other hand, there is therefore this famous system of fairly well thought out gutters. On the top-cap, surrounding the 510 connection like a moat, there is a fairly large space devoted to the recovery of juice. 6 channels arranged around the axis make it possible to recover the liquid which would flow from your ato (provided that this one has a diameter less than 30mm of course) and to direct it towards the tank mentioned above. The goal is to ensure that the juice does not flow into the connection itself and create a disaster on your battery. It's well seen, well thought out and it can be very useful especially if you use “dirty” drippers or atos.

Reviewer's comments on conditioning

The packaging is quite nice and consists of a box covered with real faux leather where a glass window has been fitted to see the interior. This interior therefore consists of the mod, sitting in a bed of felt like a vampire in his coffin and nothing else.

Well, I gladly forgive the absence of instructions. This is a mecha mod in its simplest form, thus aimed at a public aware of this type of operation who will see no problem with the startup of the Kurgan.

On the other hand, we could have appreciated a few spare parts or a velvet cloth, something that makes the buyer happy with his acquisition beyond the mod. Is it too much to ask? Good, 179 €, or 1175 of our francs that those under twenty cannot know. This is the price I paid for my first second-hand car….

Appreciations in use

I used the Kurgan for 24 hours. Normally, I always push the test further in order to have a real feeling about the behavior of a mechanic in situation. But there, I admit to having given up because the eternal insolence of the switch put me in states of nerves that the most elementary decency prevents me from describing here ... And since this material, like the others, was lent to me, I wanted to avoid throwing it in the face of one of my congeners in the street.

The mood ticket of the reviewer

A columnist can only test what he has in his hands. I don't think that the crippling flaw that I encountered on my copy concerns only him but rather that it is about a real design problem at the level of the locking of the switch.

It is all the more unfortunate that the mod could have hands down, appear among the best mechanics that have passed into my hands but this flagrant violation of malfunction could in no way pass for trivial. Indeed, a tubular mecha mod, we press the switch and it fires, right? The concept is simple. No electronics, it does not tell the time, does not do aqua aerobics or does not calculate complex algorithms. We only ask him one fucking thing, and that is to send the sauce when we press the switch. And if possible every time, without needing to reframe the mess to get there. So if not, what is left? A copper case to carry a battery?

On balance, I am disappointed and angry. Because in all honesty, when you see the beauty of Kurgan and his sin in action, you only want one thing to be perfect. I will therefore wait for the Mac Leod to come out, hoping that it will not have lost its mind either.
