In the very fashionable mini box segment, largely initiated by Council of Vapor, Vaporesso or Artery, we were impatiently awaiting the reaction of the Chinese giant Joyetech. Already, the manufacturer, always attentive to the market had not seen this trend at all happen but in addition, its response was long overdue, leaving the place vacant for an excellent Elfin 60W.

But, a few pairs of slaps to the developers later, here is finally the Joyetech vision of a mini box: the EVIC Basic. It comes to us here as a kit, delivered with a Cubis Pro 2ml clearomsieur for the sum of 62.90 €. It is not an exceptional sum taking into account the presence of an atomizer but the pioneering competition did better by offering their kits around fifty euros. Riding on a fame that continues to grow, and for good reason, Joyetech would he have revised its prices upwards?

40W, we are Ok. Proprietary Li-Po 1500mAh battery, ah, we are above the competition! Temperature control? The Mini Volt does not! Stand-by mode to switch to mech? Not bad ! What if, in the end, everything was based on the rendering. Quick, anatomy of an announced bestseller ...

Reviewer's comments on physical characteristics and perceived quality

In the EVIC family, I will want the Basic. Well, nothing could be easier, take a Mini VTC, cut it a few centimeters, graft it with a LiPo and presto, it goes to the production line! Seeing the aesthetics of the Basic, we understand that the interest of Joyetech is limited to occupying the land, which is always economically viable. But it did not take the in-house engineers a long period of research & development to create this box, which is completely in line with the genetics of the range. No meninge has been trodden for the needs of this production.

Okay, so it's not very sexy: a banal parallelepiped, Joyetech, resembling the Artery Nugget by size and an Evic VTC by design.

The relative evolution consisted in positioning the buttons [+] and [-] on the same bar below the mod in order to keep a place of choice for a large OLED screen (the same as that of the VTC?). In doing so, Joyetech permanently alienates those who, like me, have big fingers that struggle to press those damn buttons. Well, that the big paws remain on the compact mod ... the message is understood.

For those who are apprehensive about holding the box upright with the buttons below, I want to reassure them. The buttons are very carefully placed in depth and never touch the surface on which you put it. It is the bodywork that takes care of that and it does it very well.

The rest is coherent. Very carefully made aluminum, several colors available (black, gray, red, orange, white and blue) and very correct finish are the plumage of the Basic.

The switch is correct and falls naturally under the index finger or thumb. For the settings, it is therefore less obvious. It is not so much the position of the bar that poses a problem, moreover, than the size of the buttons themselves. The 510 connection is spring loaded, there are degassing vents located under the battery and the Basic carries a 1500mAh LiPo which bodes well for greater autonomy than its direct competitors.

In short, a correct balance sheet with a downside, let's say, in principle: the aesthetics being borrowed from the EVIC VTC, the screen too, the 510 itou connection, the chipset in my humble opinion (I could be wrong) being a power-constrained version of that of the VTC, what justifies a rate 20% higher than that of the competition? If we except the position of the control knobs and the presence of a LiPo, what remained for the engineers in house to look for?

The impression that Joyetech recycles parts from its previous productions remains intact for me and I regret that the manufacturer that we knew more inspired did not take the opportunity to release THE mini-box that he was amply capable of producing.

Reviewer's comments on functional features

The functionalities are usual at Joyetech. We have a variable power mode, a temperature control mode natively accepting resistives in NI200, titanium and SS316 on a scale of 100 to 315 ° C, a TCR mode which allows you to implement the heating coefficients yourself. resistives not included in the system as well as a By-Pass mode, now known, which allows the voltage from the battery to the atomizer to be passed directly, without regulation but keeping the many protections.

Nothing wrong, everything is there.

Operation is always intuitive and, if you've ever handled a Joyetech in your vaping life, you won't be confused. Five clicks turn the box on and off. Three clicks, you enter the menu where you move around using the [+] and [-] buttons and you validate your choices using the switch. Deja vu reassuring and effective in devil.

In the category of essential and therefore totally silly gadgets, we have a digital clock, available in three different display modes please, as well as the personalization of your screen by the inclusion of a logo made by you - same (monochrome in 64X40px, .bmp format) using the firmware upgrade software available HERE for Windows and HERE for Mac.

On the other hand, security level, we do not joke with that at the manufacturer. Short circuits, overheating, overload, discharge too low, rising dollar, everything is provided and provided by two independent circuits dedicated solely to these functions. Hat.

Joyetech remains the reference in terms of packaging.

Joyetech Evic Basic Pack

Thus, we find in the white cardboard box dear to the brand: the box, a USB / Micro USB cord, a Cubis Pro clearomizer in 2ml, a warranty card, a multilingual manual including French as well as two coils for the clearo : a BF SS316-0.5ohm DL and an LVC Clapton-1.5ohm MTL with liquid arrival control. What to start under the best auspices a mini but serious vape.

We open the box and suddenly it's Christmas in September!

Reviewer's comments on the use of the product

It's Bysance in this regard.

Between a Cubis Pro which never leaks and a Basic which sends everything it has in its stomach with negligible latency, we are on a very good quality of rendering and this is what Joyetech counts on to occupy the market . Made up of broken-in and reliable elements, the kit is simply hell.

The vape is powerful, smooth and constant, to whatever power it is. The temperature control, but who would have doubted, works perfectly. The Joyetech thing is there, all contained in this little box of the average physique, a kind of Bill Gates of the nomadic vape, what. Not very well gaulé but who has in mind!

Joyetech Evic Basic Face

Where the competitors have chosen, at least some of them, to bypass their box after a period of inactivity in order to conserve some precious energy in the battery, Joyetech does not care. It sends its clock as a screensaver, assuming, which is not wrong, that either you stop vaping and you turn off the box, or that you fell asleep between two puffs and there, the clock is throwing you in the face when you wake up ...

Autonomy remains limited, despite the 1500mAh available, but I would remind you that it is a nomadic or auxiliary box and in no case a set-up that will last you a whole day, unless you vape at 10W.

Recommendations for use

The mood ticket of the reviewer

Another good product from Joyetech. Rationally, the Basic is worth the test because the rendering is excellent for all diets.

Despite this, the feeling of unfinished business persists. We would have liked, coming from the largest manufacturer on the planet Vape, a little more risk-taking, innovations or even an aesthetic reading of the object. Alas, it is more a clever and well-made assembly of existing parts than an innovative and shattering product.

No doubt Joyetech got us badly used? It may be true. But, in an area where the best is yet to come, we like when a manufacturer of this caliber does better or more than following the market. We like that he precedes her, that he orchestrates, that he makes us dream, that he dares, that he tries ...

The Basic is great. But she is just that.
