Vaping friends of all stripes and vapor, it is not very often that we have the opportunity to review an e-pipe on the Vapelier also it is with great pleasure that I embark on this exercise perilous from which I hope to emerge unscathed. Today we are therefore testing the SMOK Guardian V2 e-pipe, an adjustable electronic pipe from 6 to 15W operating with 18350 batteries. Reviewer's comments on physical characteristics and perceived quality

I would like to clarify that we are not here on an artisan product but on an industrial product in order to put things in perspective. Therefore, there is no possible comparison between the fruit of long working hours of a master pipemaker with an e-pipe produced in large series.

However, the Guardian V2 shows an exceptional quality of finish. Both in terms of metal and wood treatment. The wood is an exotic wood, certainly a derivative of mahogany, perfectly cut to highlight a harmonious veining and covered with a shiny lacquer which brings out the warmth of the object. The shape is voluptuous and sensual and really resembles that of a real beautiful Egg type tobacco pipe. The handling is totally pleasant even if the stove is still a good size.

Much attention has also been paid to the treatment of metal. In stainless steel, machined to perfection and assembled with wood in a very honorable way. The contrast is striking and the object immediately takes on a vintage and techno aspect at the same time which gives it a Steampunk aesthetic dear to the authors of Science-Fiction and which suits it perfectly. I would add that the quality of the threads is simply bluffing as well as the interior appearance of the stove, whose stainless steel cradle will accommodate a 18350 battery, with or without nipple.

The switch is imperial and falls easily under the finger. Its release makes a reassuring and friendly metallic click that also contributes to the pleasure of vying on the Guardian V2.

I find only one small negative point in terms of the finish, it is the slight detachment between the upper part of the wooden rod and the stainless steel ring that we add to have an 510 connection. But I quibble, I quibble…. Especially since the price is very correct for a mod of this type and of this quality.

If we forget the stuffing side that there is in establishing the nomenclature of the functionalities of an e-pipe, we fall back on the very essence of the vape. Here is a beautiful object made to vape and modulate the power of its vape. You can possibly turn it on, turn it off, turn it back on and turn it off again and start over until you have a thumb cramp but it is clearly not a geek item. Everything else takes a back seat behind the simple pleasure of vaping a good juice in a good atomizer mounted in 1.5Ω and basta. The rest belong to another era, ours. The Guardian, for its part, remains and will remain timeless thanks to its beauty and simplicity.

The voltage delivered when it is quite surprising because, if we can not speak of a flat signal strictly speaking, the vape is particularly soft and devoid of roughness, which makes me think of a fairly fast frequency signal all the same. Unfortunately, it's impossible to know more, SMOK being as silent as a sandal on the technical specifications of its Guardian… .And in the absence of an oscilloscope, I can only trust my feeling.

Reviewer's comments on conditioning

The Guardian V2 arrives in a cardboard box itself wrapped in a sheet of hard plastic. The foam inside is of an enormous density, it is even the greatest difficulty to release the e-pipe from its location but remains the pledge of a “safe” transport for the object. Nothing too exciting but okay. A wooden box typed “trunk of the Indies” with the same foam would have corresponded much better to the object contained for a completely immersive experience but the manufacturer decided otherwise, certainly for reasons of cost.

Do not be fooled like me, there is a manual in this packaging but it sits in the double bottom of the box which appears as if by magic when you have extracted the foam. A simple notice, in English, which explains to us that blah blah blah blah blah… not much in fact….

Sit on a Chesterfield armchair, a rare edition of a Meville novel in your hand, wriggle a few logs in your fireplace. Then, fill a rebuildable atomizer with Phillip Rocke, crank up the notch to 14 / 15W and go on an epic journey where you become the hero Ismael, launched in pursuit of an unlikely but dangerous white whale under the orders of an ass -de-bowl. Throw your harpoons, reload and take your lucky atomizer, the one that contains your Pirate's Brew and it's off again for a heroic waltz that will take you to the end of the night as long as you have provided food and coffee on the wooden pedestal table which rocks under the pressure of the waves.

Here is the use that should be made of this Guardian, object to dream above all. We may regret the power limited to 15W at a time when the vital minimum is established more between 20 and 30W but how to do otherwise with a battery of 18350, necessarily limited in its autonomy and in its intensity? The vape rendering is reminiscent of that of Provari V2 in its softness and roundness. In terms of use, the Guardian behaves admirably as long as it is used in its field of play which is between 10 and 15w with resistances greater than 1.2Ω.

Its operation is very simple. 5 clicks on the switch to turn it on and off. The rotating ring allows you to choose the desired power value: 6/11, 7/12, 8/13, 9/14, 10/15 and clicking three times on the switch allows you to choose between values less than 11W (led white which lights up) or those greater than 11W (blue led).

The mood ticket of the reviewer

From the moment we understood that we had here to do with a particular object in the sphere of the vape, we can only be conquered. The beauty of the Guardian V2, the exact opposite of the ugliness of the V1, makes it an eye-catcher, an object of lust, something one wants to touch and / or possess. Its power of attraction should impose on lovers of beautiful things and the many vapers who vape in modest powers and who are looking for a different and particular mod. And it is clear that the placebo effect works wonderfully. With the Guardian, my liquids look different, smoother but more addicting. Rounder and more hypnotic. This of course escapes all logic but sometimes, we should not underestimate the impact of the beauty of a mod on the rendering that we perceive. It's devious, almost spiritual, but perfectly real.

I stacked all my boxes to make a wall between the real world and me. Welded all my tubular mecha mods to make a periscope and here I am, Captain Nemo, at the helm of the Nautilus, exploring the deep sea and a hot and accomplice vapor accompanies me. This is all the magic of Guardian V2, to express in us the child who sleeps behind the years too many and in this perspective and only in this perspective, here is an investment full of wisdom.
