Ijoy continues its offensive on all terrains and asserts itself more and more as a manufacturer on which we will have to rely in the coming years of vaping. Electro boxes, regulated mechs, atomizers of all kinds, the Chinese brand intends to make its mark in the current market and that of tomorrow.

It is with this in mind that today we will proceed with the butchering of the Exo S Tank, a rather sub-ohm type clearomiser available in steel or in black at a very affordable price. Likely to accommodate coils in single, double or quadruple coil, it should allow a versatile vape and promises to go from the indirect vape to the direct vape by choosing the adequate resistance and the airflow that suits it.

Reviewer's comments on physical characteristics and perceived quality

It is not by its aesthetics that the Exo S can really stand out. Although sympathetic, it is only declining current codes in this area. We can therefore appreciate its all-purpose appearance, its contained size and its weight to the pitch, failing to have a Miss Universe to put in the tooth.

Built in steel and pyrex, the finish is correct and does not differ in the price range. Seriously built, it is thus protected from mechanical problems even if the steel is thin and if the pyrex, which is thick enough, is directly exposed without protections liable to cushion an accidental fall. A second pyrex comes in the box just in case.

The set of screws and gaskets is very consistent and I do not note any noticeable defect which could suggest leaks or other inconveniences. To be checked of course over time, this type of clearomizer being designed to undergo strong mechanical or thermal stresses.

Reviewer's comments on functional features

Very simple, the Exo S is divided into six fundamental parts:

The base : Equipped with a non-adjustable 510 connection, it is in charge of receiving the resistance and managing the airflow by means of two large slots that can be closed by turning a ring. Nothing rocket science there, it's conventional.
Resistance : More exactly, there are three possibilities of proprietary resistances. The XS-1, not supplied, is a single coil in clapton. It will not be tested here. The XS-C1, supplied, is in double coil and displays 0.4Ω for an exploitable power between 40 and 80W. Finally, the XS-C4, in quad coil, pulls at 0.15Ω and will climb from 40 to 100W. The size of the resistors is quite impressive even if it does not reach certain diameters of the competition.
Pyrex: Nothing to report in particular except, I repeat, the absence of protections.
The chimney block / filling station: allows the junction of the whole by screwing on the top of the resistance. It maintains the pyrex by an effective upper seal. The pyrex is held at the bottom by a seal placed directly on the base. At the top, we find the orifices for filling which are wide and allow the use of any device, from the thinnest to the thickest dropper, including pipettes and other syringes.
The top-cap: It closes everything, allows access to the filling by unscrewing it and supports an orifice 510 for the drip-tip supplied or the one of your choice.

If there is one thing to remember about the functional aspects, it is that no revolution will change the game on the one hand and that, therefore, the use is completely intuitive and easy on the other hand.

Reviewer's comments on the Drip-Tip

I found the drip-tip quite suitable for trouble-free use of the clearomiser. Small enough in size and slightly curved to conform to the curvature of the lips, it is probably constructed of POM (polyoxymethylene) and has two gaskets to guarantee a perfect fit.

I tried to ask other drip-tips. As is often the case, some hold up better than others, which suggests that Ijoy took some liberties with the 510 standard. In any case, it is necessary to use a drip-tip equipped with two seals and choose the one which will be thick enough to fit in the opening which appears (very) slightly larger.

Reviewer's comments on conditioning

So we have an acrylic box surrounded by a very colorful cardboard (that changes!). There is a very dense foam, able to protect the Exo S Clearomiser, an additional resistance (the first being already installed in the ato), a bag containing red seals and an emergency pyrex reservoir.

The packaging is therefore adapted to the price of the product, offers what is necessary to work immediately and, without any revolution here either, it nevertheless appears to be quite suitable for the atomizer.

The leaflet is conspicuous by its absence and, even if the simplicity of use of the product does not require any, it would have always been pleasant to see some useful recommendations such as, at random: put two or three drops of juice in the resistance before use it, be sure to choose batteries that can withstand strong discharge currents, this type of thing ...

Reviewer's comments on the use of the product

With the exception of the single coil resistance, absent from the package, I was able to test the double and quad coil resistors. The result is good in both cases, even if the double coil seemed to me to be more suited to faithfully reproducing the flavors of the juices used.

In quad-coil, the vape is generous and very rich in vapor but the flavors are less, the low resistance of the device inducing an operating temperature requiring a wide open airflow always prejudicial to the quality of the taste. Even if the resistance is given to reach 100W, I found a point of equilibrium around 80W which seemed to me to be such as to retain a sense of the flavors while being very generous in vapor. In general, I found the maximum figures recommended by the manufacturer a little optimistic on the two resistors. We can actually reach 100W but it is sometimes at the cost of a few unfortunate dry-hits, especially if we use a juice loaded with VG.

In double-coil, the flavors go up naturally and the vape, undoubtedly less in volume, becomes more dense. Here too, it is rather between 55 and 60W that the point of equilibrium is found which will ensure the ideal compromise between vapor and taste. At the recommended 80W, we are close to the dry-hit at every moment and the taste of hot quickly dissuades to stay at this level.

In both cases, however, the Exo S behaves well and offers a quality of rendering unrelated to the price requested, in a good way for once. The flavors remain appreciable, the vapor abundant. What more ? Well a high liquid consumption but which remains, strangely, wiser than some competitors, even if, let’s not dream, the 3.2ml of capacity evaporates quite quickly.

In the category of slight downsides, I note a fairly clear noise on the intake, especially wide open airholes and a tendency to refuse chain-vaping when the tank is more than half empty. In that of sharps, I appreciated the good ease of access and use of the airflow ring.

The mood ticket of the reviewer

The Exo S is a good Ijoy clearomiser which, without being a “game changer”, could constitute an alternative to the competition already in the niche.

I particularly liked its ease of implementation, its convincing rendering even if I preferred it in double coil than in quad, its serious construction and its friendly price. I would have liked to be able to test the resistance in single coil in order to determine if the manufacturer's promise to be able to also achieve an indirect vape was achievable. In both cases of the double and the quad coil, it was not possible and for good reason, the temperature then becoming very troublesome with a tight airflow.

A Top Ato automatically greets a score that is applied and played with a good heart, even if some competitors can actually offer better. But for a higher price. Sometimes, reason wins over the heart and this is what is worth to the Exo S this label saluting its general quality and its coherent rendering.
