In early January, appeared on Facebook, an atomizer that seemed to be revolutionary: the Altus de Guo.
This Altus is actually a clearomizer, which uses a proprietary resistance. And it is this resistance that comes the revolution. A resistance that bears the scholarly name of CVU, for Center Vaping Units and which is guaranteed 1 an.
Guo offers us a clearomizer at the price of € 129,90, which already represents a revolution in itself and even a record: that of the most expensive product in its category! Designed and designed in the United States, this product is assembled in China. We do not dare to imagine the price if it had been produced entirely in the States ...
It is nonetheless very innovative and I can't wait to see if the promise of the permanent coil holds up. Let's go meet him.

To begin with, the design of the Altus is linear, sober, without fantasy and suddenly very consensual. Difficult to feel the slightest fascination while looking at him. He is, objectively, neither beautiful nor ugly, so he can only please.
Of a substantial size, it displays only 3,5ml of capacity, which is objectively little for an atomizer of its corpulence.
In stainless steel, with a pyrex tank, the materials used seem to be of good quality.
The machining is very correct, the joints are of good quality and the threads are quite satisfactory.
On the aesthetic level, a correct product but which does not really present anything revolutionary. In terms of quality, an applied realization and a correct finish but nothing out of the ordinary.
For this part, in the end, I will say that the product is quite suitable at this stage but that the 130 € seems to me a bit high price for a clearomiser. Innovation is really going to have to prove convincing to pass the pill.

We start of course with the CVU, this almost permanent resistance.
The resistance is a small white plate (when it is new) in ceramic, traversed by a tungsten circuit. This small plate is held in place by two small gold-plated pins, themselves mounted on a base equipped with 510 connection pin.
This “chip” is supposed to provide a tasty and cleaner vape, without clogging or the need to dry-burn (otherwise impossible).
The filling is done from the bottom, in a way I would call traditional.
The airflow also adopts a system that has been tried and tested many times over: a metal ring pierced with four 2x7mm slots. A simple, efficient system that ranges from modest to generous airflow.
All in all, therefore, we have an innovative and classic product at the same time. Indeed, all the aspects of the clearomiser have not benefited from the same treatment and only the resistance presents a new character, the rest being based on known and functional technologies.

The Altus will be delivered to you in a thick and rigid cardboard box. White, the product logo is inscribed in a red triangle and a silver frame indicates the presence of the CVU.
The clearomizer is accompanied by seals and cotton squares, no second tank in case of breakage, it's a shame. A manual very well illustrated with many photos is present, but only in English.
The packaging remains correct, without much surprise and probably a bit tight compared to the price.

If the placement of cotton, then resistance, does not present any difficulty, it is not the same for everything.
The filling is simple on paper but to fill, you have to unscrew the entire base and every other time, it is the tank that you unscrew. It is all the more embarrassing that this “revolutionary” atomizer adopts an old system like Herod while the vast majority of new atomizers or clearomizers use a top filling system, which is easier and more direct.
Let's talk about the effectiveness of resistance:
Yes, she is interesting. But far from being successful. The latency effect, more commonly known as the “diesel effect”, is just considerable. As I take second on this product I did not have to break it in. However, even running in, it's still very sluggish.
Guo tells us that the resistor works from 30W ??? Below 45W, I have so much nothing that I wonder if a good old CE4 does not send more! I am probably exaggerating a little, but we are far from the effect promised on paper.
From 45 / 50W, it starts to work but nothing extraordinary. No revelation in terms of flavors, it just works correctly.
This resistance greatly solicits your batteries and will quickly be right for their autonomy. In TC (temperature control), things are a little more positive but, again, not enough to bury the traditional fixtures resistive wire plus cotton or other.
Another small inconvenience is the insufficient heat dispersion. The atomizer is very hot quickly. It's nice in winter, it's heating, but it's still a bit unpleasant.
All this is probably not dramatic, but the promises are still far from being kept.

The mood ticket of the reviewer
Well, you guessed it, the Altus does not live up to the hopes we had placed in it. Guo gives us the impression of delivering a beta version of his product.
The idea remains very good and frankly, like everyone else, I was seduced by the idea of a permanent resistance which would have been as effective as a good homemade assembly.
But the diesel effect, the energy consumption of the CVU and the poor heat dispersion only reinforce the feeling of not having the promised revolution but rather the starting point of a possible evolution.
So, if you have the collector's spirit and you are not close to 130 € (me, yes!) It is undoubtedly a piece to own, a curiosity, a prototype that will have marked the beginnings of a new one. health research. But do not expect to vape on it while having fun. And, a little advice for manufacturers: do not hesitate to have your products tested by vapers before they are put on the market.
